Title: My future Daughter-in-law Alicia...
Post by DennisM1045 on Dec 22nd, 2007, 12:02am
took the day yesterday to shop for Christmas.  First thing in the morning she was turning left to enter a Doughnut shop drive-thru for some coffee and gets rear-ended.

She gets out and a hispanic women is screaming about the damage to her car - even though she's the one who caused the accident.  Alicia notices a 4 y/o girl crying in the back seat of the other car.  It's 18 degrees.  The little girl is screaming, has no coat on, isn't in a seatbelt and has an ankle swollen over the top of her sneaker.

Alicia asks the women if her kids is ok.  The women says she's fine.  Of course the kid isn't fine!  Now a cop pulls up.  Turns out he's seen the whole thing from the parking lot across the street and he stops Alicia from taking the child out of the car.  He said he saw her fly from the back seat into the front seat in the impact and not to touch her.  Frustrated at the women's lack of concern before and after the accident for her daughter, Alicia lights into the woman and goes up one side of her and down the other.

When she has it all out of her system she turns and appologizes to the cop for yelling.  He says she's doing fine and isn't saying anything he wasn't going to.

Alicia's car is fine.  It's an SUV and the woman's Saturn went underneath it.  The cop writes up several violations for the other driver and says he's having her car towed.  She says she can't afford it.  She says she can't affort to have her daughter taken to the hospital either.

Now most folks would find a way to extricate themselves from the situation and find a way to salvage the day.  Not our Alicia.

Alicia takes one look at this little girl and reacts.  She has the women's car towed to her Uncle's garage using her own AAA card.  She convinces the women to allow her daughter to be taken by ambulance to the hospital.  Follows the ambulance to the hospital, waits while the confirm her broken ankle, and only then leaves.

Once out of the hospital, Alicia heads to Kohls, buys the kids a coat, some clothes and toys for Christmas and heads back to the hospital to deliver the packages.  They were keeping the little one for observation.  I'm not sure what her status is tonight.

Alicia's ability to bury her anger and revultion at the actions of the Mother and instead reach out to the daughter amazed me.  It only confirms what we all know about Alicia.  She is one of the most kind, caring individuals I know.

Does my son know how to pick em or what?

-Dennis-

Alicia sounds like the sort of person we all wish e know more like. Your son did a fantastic job and you're all lucky to have her in the family. Let's hope this is a turning point for that little girl too and that she learns just how wonderful this world can be  :)

Stories like this are what Christmas really is all about. If anyone ever made a video of lots of little stories like this, showing all the good that goes on in the world every day and how much happier people feel about it then maybe, just maybe it would stop one person doing something shitty and that would have a domino effect.. I can dream!

HAs anyone ever seen the film "Pay it Forward"? Well - I truly believe that can happen and its how I try to be since seeing it. If you haven't seen it and you want to give me a Christmas present - watch it please.

lots of love
Helen xxx

That's as Christ-like as it gets, Dennis.

DO NOT allow your son to let her get away.

Merry Christmas, Alicia.

Wow, awesome. :o

I don't know if I could cool myself down quick enough to think that rationally in such a situation.

One of a kind your future Daughter-in-law is...

Amen to that!!  How wonderful of Alicia to do what she did...and she probably didn't even think twice.

Now we should pray and send as many positive thoughts and vibes to that little girl and her family so whomever is caring for her at any given time is more worried about her and not their car!!

Wishing you Dennis and Alicia and the rest of you whole family a wonderful Christmas and a very safe and happy New Year!!

Dennis, I read this back when you posted on the 22nd and was going to reply and I got sidetracked somehow and missed posting.
I just want to say your future daughter in-law Alicia is a true angel. Not many left out there that would do something like what she did so would you mind letting her know this for me?

Thanks,  Barry :)
