Title: Hello ! And A Question :)
Post by painintheworld on Dec 14th, 2007, 8:23pm
Hello everyone ! This is my first post though I have been a longtime lurker. I noticed in the 'where we live' section there are several people from Western North Carolina. I was wondering if any of you WNC guys have any experience with Mission Neurology in Asheville ? I finally have an appointment the first of February (unless they push it back again).

I liove on the other side of the world from you so I'm no help.  Just be patient...Bill Mingus or others will see this soon.

Feb is the 1st. anyone can see you?   Well, that sucks.  Anything we can help you with in the meantime?

Linda,  in California.

Hello Linda :) I am actually doing ok with the ch now. My biggest problem at the moment is that my tmj problems have really flared up.  My ch is not as severe as some of the people here as my tmj hurts a bit more.

The 1st of Feb is the quickest I could get (it was Jan. 22 - got pushed back) , and that was with the doctor calling on the 8th of November :(  My family doctor tried what he could via some medications , with the last being imitrex which only made me sick at my stomach.

All I can tell you for sure is that I MISS living 40-miles from the Blueridge Parkway!!

Surely, with all the medical resources in Asheville you will find a good specialist. But consider these sources:

1. Search the OUCH site (button on left) for a list of recommended M.D.s.

2. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

3.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

4. http://www.achenet.org  On-line screen to find a physician.

5. http://www.headaches.org/consumer/index.html Call 1-800-643-5552; they will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.
