Title: My Daughter
Post by aura on Oct 13th, 2007, 12:26am
I am wondering if any of you who have childern with cluster headaches could explain to me the symptoms.

It is odd cause I suffer from cluster headaches, but yet my daughters headaches baffle me. She told me that they feel like some one is pushing on her head, and she becomes quite grumpy before she has them. She dos nto complain about them that often but she is not one to complain. I can just notice her mood change.

Any one who has information would be great. I am going to take her to our doctor next week and I hope something comes from it.

Thank you

Hello Aura,
Can you explain in more detail what your daughter does when she has a headache? Saying she is a bit grumpy doesn't sound anything like CH (THANK YOU GOD!!)

I don't want to describe symptoms to you as I don't want to put words into your mouth - I know how dangerous it is to try and second guess headache types as medicines for one headache can quite literally kill - especially a child - if given for the wrong headache type. With over 600 HA types it does take a HA Specialist neurologist to make an accurate diagnosis and none of us are doctors, just expert patients!

I do truly understand your concerns, I have one son with migraines and one with CH and I'm a chronic CH'er myself. It crucifies me to see any of my children in pain and I know this is why you are looking for info BUT... and there's always a but!! - the best way we can help is by listening at this stage.

How old is your daughter?
How long has she been getting headaches?
How often does she get HA's?
How long do they last?
Is she affected by lack of sleep, light, smell, certain foods etc?
What is her behaviour like when she is having a headache?
Do any meds help or can she sleep it off for instance?

I can't promise any answers but I can certainly promise all the support you need while you are waiting for an accurate diagnosis  :)

Hang in there
Helen

Keeping a diary of what happens and how often is a good idea as it will help with diagnosis.

The mood change concerns me because it is a pre- curser to my headaches. I Am sure being a person with them makes me over concerned for her.

She is 5 years old, almost 6. She had complained of headaches a bit last year but in the past 2 weeks. She has complained of headaches off an on for a week now. She says they feel like someone is pushing on her head really hard.

I am not jumping to conclusions but I am concerned. I plan to you know get her eyes checked, teeth checked and so on. I was just trying to find info on childern who have them I hope to god she does not.

Doesn't sound like clusters to me Aura, but I'm no doc.

If she was holding her eye and histerically crying to have mommy make it stop, and eventually it did, but it returned again later on, or wakes her from sleep, I would say more than likely it was.

Let us know how she makes out at the doc.

Cheers,
