Beer Test Question
« on: Mar 14th, 2008, 1:25pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

To all you experienced users...

I haven't had a real hit for a week now, just evening and morning shadows.  Nothing last night and light shadow this AM.

I really want to have beers this eve.  If I do, either nothing happens or I get hit, here's the question...

Do I get hit just once as a payback, or do I run the risk of aggravating a ending cycle and putting up with the beast for another few weeks?

What say ye.

I don't know. I just stopped drinking. It wasn't that vital to me, and I didn't want to run the risk.

Good luck.

I generally just go ahead and give it a try. It's not likely to hit the re-set button for a new cycle if that is what you are worried about.

I do, for safety's sake, make sure I take a little imitrex with me when I go out in this type of situation -- just in case.

Worst case, you get hit. It sucks. It goes away and you're none the wiser.
Don't drink and drive with a cluster headache (or without really) -- it would make for a really bad mug-shot    Wink

In my experience only, if I do the beer test and fail, it's a one-off.  Doesn't reset the cycle.

I usually wait until I've gone a week without a hit--or a shadow before I try.  I'm almost always right about the thing being over.  Some wait longer.

Best,

Best of luck, Kaib, and I'm having one for you this arvo regardless.

Brain, that's funny-what other condition uses beer as a diagnostic tool.

Anyway, drank the first one with some trepidation (it lasted all of two minutes-mmm beer); nothing.  Drank the second with less fear.  All in all, I drank five beers and life was good.

As I prepared dinner, I was hit with a hard shadow, but do not attribute that to the alcohol.  This AM, I do NOT have my typical morning shadow.  Wow!  The beast may very well be back in his deep grave.

I will now wait a week and look forward to wine with dinner once again.  Bless ya'll, I am now a partner forever.  Here's cheers for all others and PF days 'cross our planet.

Only the beast knows the answer.

You willing to welcome him back for a few more weeks if its not a one time payback?

Personally, I figured out through hindsight that alcohol only triggered an attack when I was at least three or four weeks into my cycle. Once I had that figured out, I wouldn't risk it until I was sure I was done (no more shadows) Alcohol triggered the most brutal attacks for me - so not worth it.
