Title: Isn't this backwards?
Post by 65fstbk on Feb 20th, 2008, 4:51pm
This may seem like a dumb question, but is it possible ...or should I say,is it heard of (anything is possible with these things)that the "worst" HA come at the END of the cycle? I started my cycle on Dec.31 (happy New Years ..huh?) after 4 years of being PF...though this cycle has been a little different than some in the past , it was generally the same...mostly nite time hits ,starting off mild until mid cycle, then tapering back off....(cycles used to range from 6 to 8 weeks  2 x a year)..a week ago (week #7) I was PF...no nite time hits, and the week before, I could abort nite time hits with an ice pack (frozen peas  ;) ) ...so..I was thinking (hoping) the cycle had ended...until yesterday...On the drive home from work I got hit with a (kip)9....I made it to my step moms house (I pass it on the way home) and fought the beast there...when I got home (about an hour later, I still had "shadows" and had them the rest of the nite...an hour after I went to bed, I got hit with a (kip)10...and another 10 a few hours later.....1/2 hour after getting up this morning another attack ..(kip)7...and then AT WORK ...I got hit with another 9....and still have the "shadow" from that one (over 5 hrs ago)...its almost like I am at "mid cycle" again. In the past I rarely if ever had hits in the day time...at least, not anything above say a 5 or so...I could still function...the last 2  days have been hell...you dont suppose this is the beasts "final farewell" do you? :-/ I am now 8 weeks into this cycle, and hope its not "ramping" back up...Just the other day I noticed when I looked in the mirror that I had 2 eye lids again.....the right one has been pretty much sagging since they started ::) ...In the past, I have never had this happen..when the HA went away, they just got easier and easier until they were gone.....I am just hoping that THIS isnt the "mid cycle" hits and I am only 1/2 way done with this cycle...I guess the question is, is it common for these to hit so hard at the END of the cycle? (BTW..I was diagnosed in the early 80's)

I guess Im not really looking for an answer, just more of a vent I suppose...This shit is getting old! :'( ...sorry to ramble, but you guys/gals are good listeners  ;)

Joe

Not a dumb or weird question at all.

I'm chronic so it doesn't apply to me but many episodics have stated that the beast likes to go "OUT" with a bang with lots more hits and way more painful one's at that.

Just because this hasn't happened to you in the past means very little.  The beast is always morphing.

Hope this is the end for you.      Linda

Thanks for the reply Linda..My heart goes out to you (and anyone else who is chronic)...I truely dont know how you do it..."at least" being episodic there is a light at the end of the tunnel...as I found out, sometimes it may be a train ready to hit you head on, but sometimes it is indeed the end...And I do know about these things morphing, as in the past there has been changes, just never this one (getting hit this hard, this late in a cycle)..Amazing how fast a person "forgets" pain....after 4 years PF, I forgot how easy it was for these things to make a grown man cry :'( ...thnx again Linda..wishing you PFDAN

My DH is in the same boat Joe.  His started right around the same time yours did and they have ramped up to 10's the past two weeks.  He has shadow throughout most of the day now too.

Called a headache specialist (neuro) and the first available appt. is in June  :-/

I'm hopeful that he's at the end of the cycle (this is his first cluster headache experience) and I hope you are too.

I'll post how things progress for him over the next couple of weeks.

What Linda said, the beast lives to morph. More importantly, what do you have available to you as preventative meds and abortive meds. You're getting your ass kicked pretty hard, do you at least have oxygen? Can we get you pointed in a direction to get access to someone who can help you??? Hang in there. :-/

A comment from a chronic CH:

We all have something which we have to bear.  It's best to adopt an attitude that life goes on and so will I.  I gather up my tools, (Oxygen and Imitrex injections in my case), sometimes supplement with energy drinks, and live life to the fullest extent.

Anything less is unfair to those that love us and to ourselves.

Live life!

L'chiam,

Wishing you well,

Ray

Hi Joe. I am episodic and out of cycle right now. I found the beast morphed up big time at the end of this cycle. Sorry you are in cycle and pray it ends for you very soon.

Hang in there!!

See, I told ya Joe.   ;)

So when your cycle ends, (next week hopefully) do what others here do:

Stockpile, get the 02 tanks filled and stored away in the back of a closet, and then go out and live your life, knowing that even if you never have another CH...you'll be ready just in case you do.   That kind of pre-planning makes you rest easy.

You've got some beautiful daughters to spend quality time with soon.

Joe,
I surely hope that the beast is leaving with a bang and nothing more! Lots of PF days & nights your way!

Wishes,
Sanna

Usually when the hits are coming really hard and heavy, I know that the cycle is going to end soon.  Or at least I hope it is.  ;)

My other half is episodic, what we are hoping is the end of his cycle culminated in a weekend of horror nearly two weeks ago but nothing since bar one rogue hit. Fingers crossed. Being chronic myself I don't have that but I just wanted to add I find it easier to cope with being chronic than the fear of waiting for it to come back. I think we all fear what the other half of us go through because it's outside our experience usually.

I hope you find it was the end of your cycle too!

Joe:

I was PF no clusters for 14 years until.. this past August.  This cycle was nothing like anything I experienced.  When I had my first headache I knew immediately that it was a cluster, but tried to trick myself into believing that is was just a bad headache due to the sun and heat (I happened to be laying out in the sun on a cruise to the Western Carribean).  All of my headaches started in the morning and I would have several mid afternoon. I didn't have one headache in the evening.. so I don't think you can ever have a "typical" cycle.  The only good thing to come out of this cycle... I was introduced to Imitrex injections..what a godsend! This is truly a miracle..besides the Lithium, Verapamil, and Oxygen.. and the Prednisone... Hang in there...
