Title: Auction Items, etc...  Fresh start?
Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 7th, 2005, 8:59am
I know I partook in that last thread to vent my feelings about OUCH, but maybe we just need to start a fresh thread right here for anyone interested in donating items for the auction or door prize?  Last year, I got a new O2 mask (I forget who donated them...I apologize!!!)...and it really helped me!

I don't have anything like that to donate, but I can create copies of my two piano recital CDs for donation if you'd think that would be good, Donna.

I can't come to the convention because it is too close to the start of my brand new job, and also my parents put our family vacation starting from the weekend before the convention through the weekend of the convention.  As much as I really want to spend time with everyone, I need to be with my family on our vacation!

However,...Donna -- if you think the cds are a good idea, please let me know and I can mail them to you...but probably not until closer to the convention!

Lil Sis Lizzie :)

Not only do the auctions help with replenishing the funds OUCH spends on the convention and other various projects, they are fun for the participants.  It also allows people who want to contribute to OUCH the opportunity to do so.

Tracey and I had a good ol' Texas biddng war over a cheesecake last year!  Talk about a few intense moments!  LOL!

As a door prize, I ended up with a care package of "storage items" and ended up giving it immediately to someone who needed it worse than I.

I hope that recent events will not deter anyone from coming to the convention or from donating items.  Let's not let politics get in the way of a fun time, ok?

So far we have:

Mike, you are too talented!  The crib is beautiful!

I have a couple of items to donate:  A large cofee scented candle with coffee beans as the base...it's beautiful...coffee candle...appropriate for clusterhead's no?  And I have a painting as well.  I may be able to get some of my artist friends to donate some of their art, but let me know first if these items are okay, Donna.

Thanks.

I am SO SORRY...all that copying and pasting had my eyes crossed!!  CERTAINLY those would be great!  It was an oversight and I apologize!

I, too, have a friend who is an artist and will be donating a couple of paintings of Texas landscapes filled with Bluebonnets (the state flower of Texas).

Looks to be a great auction folks!

Okay, I finally finished the first of several items I hope to make for the auction.  It's all pine.  The squares are clear and  Dark Oak stained.  The base is stained in a Dark Walnut.  The checkers, not pictured, are poplar - clear and Ebony stained.  The base is coated in a satin polyurathane.  The board is coated with a gloss polyurethane.

Okay, auction item #2:  8" x 10" Cedar Picture Frame.  This was a tree a few days ago.  Well, at least part of a tree.  It is made from an old scrub cedar tree the next door neighbor cut down and was going to burn.   The wood was hand milled into boards by me using an axe, a bow saw, a hand saw and a table saw.  I left plenty of milling marks on the back - for uh...authenticity's sake.  (in other words I was too damned lazy to sand them all out)  ;;D    This project was a learning experience for me.  I learned the hard way that being exposed for several hours to the very much overpowering smell of fresh cut cedar will cause my head to go nutzoid on me.  Had to work on it in short bursts after that or suffer the consequences.

Anyways, the front of the frame is finished with a coat of clear satin polyurathane.  The back will remain unfinished so you can still get that great cedar smell.

A bit late on this but....

Marty and I have a small photography business, worldshots.net, and would be happy to donate some matted photographs that we have taken. I can even frame on or two if you want - just let me know..

This is our first convention, came in lucky since we just moved to Texas and even though we can only come on Saturday, we are looking foward to it!
