Title: Playoff Seeding Question
Post by DJ on Oct 19th, 2006, 12:32am
I have a playoff rules question I want to ask you guys.  It involves playoff seedings and who makes the playoffs in the event of a tie.

The two teams with the best record in each division make the playoffs.

Let's say 3 teams in one division finish the regular season 11-2... what decides the top 2 teams?

Right now, it's set to head-to-head record.  It means if Team A lost to both Team B and C during the regular season, Team A would be out and B & C would move on; and so on.  It could get rather confusing and put a lot of emphasis on one week matchups.

I propose we change the tie-breaker to total points.  This way, seedings are made on the total number of points scored by the teams throughout the regular season.  Basically, it means if 3 teams have the same record at the end of the regular season, the two teams with the highest number of points move on.  It puts an emphasis on the entire season rather than a week-to-week matchup.

Please let me know what you want the tie-breaker rule to be.

A) Head-to-head record (like it is now)
B) Regular season total points for

My vote is B.

Being from chicago and loving defense.....I just can't bring myself to vote for most points scored.

A

SOS
Honestly, being a team that has trouble scoring more than 60 points a game has NOTHING to do with my vote.

Maybe I missed it but...was there a decision on this? total points scored? Point differential off/def ? head to head?

Need to know if I need to score 400 points this weekend ;-)

Yep, two teams in each division with the highest number of points for the season will make the playoffs starting week 14.

Two wins and a good bit of points might get you in there!  Looks like you are 176+ points (and two wins)  behind Tim Z and 211+ behind Bill for the second playoff spot.

As they say in sports... "you are not in control of your own destiny".  You need some help.

You might want to try and win out from here... lol
