I am in awe of everyones photos. It is a joy to see them , it also a way of sharing parts of the world I have not seen. Thank you everyone for sharing. I just point and shoot and once in a while i am lucky enough to catch something I know is good, you all seem to have the magic eye in seeing it before you point and shoot. I know what I like and these I like

OMG, Marc! here's an idea.why don't you get a website and offer your images for sale! Maybe even some of the Coasties would buy ! BTW-any good material in Texas? Seriously, some of the work here is world class.as for me, well, my camera only takes pics of houses...and then the flipping thing sells..............then I have to go take more pictures of another house..vicious cycle....... PLEASE keep this thread going, I truly admire your talents! Thank you, one and all! Cathi

You stop posting pics and I'm going to wallop Chuck into the middle of next week... can you live with that on your conscience?! ( I know, TOUGH choice! ) I love all of them, I can't pick one above another but that last one is incredible.. what kind of weather conditions caused that?

I'll bring a stack of 8x10's to Dallas. Many of these are already hanging as 18"-30" prints. OK, now I'm down to 1,195 - I'll give it a rest........

There are a lot of absolutely stunning pics on here. I'm with helen here, just love that *last* shot. Jonny, like 2, 3 (love pics of *Gods rays*) and 5. Pep, love the waterfall. Charlotte, purdy! Oh hell, if I mention everybody/every pic that I like, I'll be here the rest of the night ! Maybe, next year, for convention, we could develop a 2009 calendar with different photographs from the folks on here. Marc, Yes, do bring some pics to convention! I haven't run out of wall yet.

| Good God, Marc... that's not even playing fair! I feel like I showed up at a gun fight with an overcooked noodle. Wow! BTW, that's one of my favorite places to walk. This shot is from just up the coast.

I’ve been really fortunate to make friends with surfmen all over D11 and D13. The instructors at the NMLB School at Cape D are super. As a civilian photographer, I’m not allowed to go underway during SAR and training missions so all of my images were officially shot from shore . (Those Mustang survival suits are really uncomfortable......) The 47's are really high tech but I'm a huge fan of the Intrepid class 52's - that's an MLB! I've spent some time aboard some WPB 87's but my heart is in the 44, 47 and 52 MLB's. What was your duty? My latest shots from the beach. (or maybe was it a helo?) |
| I served @ Station Annapolis, MD, MotorLifeBoat [MLB] Station Hatteras Inlet Hatteras, NC , and USCGC (WHEC-723) RUSH when she tied up @ Alameda, CA. Spent a lot of time in the Bering Sea running the small boat off the cutter. Deadliest Catch brings back a LOT of memories of seas I've been in. Too many, sometimes. I liked the 44 footer; very dependable but slow. 8 knots no matter what the seas. We had a 30' SRB [Surf Rescue Boat] for a while and broke her. She looked like an Adidas tennis shoe. All engine and fiberglass but could she rocket through the waves. We routinely got her airbourne on "training sorties".

You folks are too kind – I just run on pure luck. As I’ve already said, some of mine may be different that others but each image has a beauty of its own. Sure, sharpness and clarity can help an image, but the emotive value of the shot is most important. Look at all of the great captures displayed in this thread . None of my work could possibly measure up to how some of them make you feel when you see them. Go back and look at Mel’s shots of the baby’s feet in the adult hands, or Charlotte’s orchard in bloom, or Shawns “reflection” shot, or the power displayed in Pep’s waterfalls, or any one of a dozens of images that Vig has been posting for years - and soo many other people's work too. Slow down and look at each one. How do they make you feel? That’s the point, they are more the pretty pictures! Tom, Based on stories I’ve heard, the Bering Sea can be the stuff nightmares are made of. The 44’s are still the favorite of the “old pro” Surfmen that I’ve met for exactly the reason you mentioned – they just keep on moving regardless of the conditions. And with a few notable exceptions, they would bring you home. Shawn, That’s a great shot of Ragged Point from the North. It's hard to capture the immensity of the cliffs. I love the hike down the stairs/path to the little beach below. On weekdays, you can have all to yourself all day long – just don’t do it when the swell is up. Neat shot! Delta, Your images are good example of what I was saying. I could never get those shots here, and you have good informative comments to go with your images in the Mini Vacation thread. Now that’s cool!
