I wonder if they are a more Northern bird - I've only seen one or two in my lifetime (Indigo Buntings, right?).

Yes Pat, an Indigo Bunting. Smiley  We used to get them frequently in spring/summer about 5-6 years ago, and then they just disappeared?  So when this one came to the feeder this morning, I was shocked!  Could be it is just passing through, but I sure hope not!

That's how my last sighting was . . between a cardinal and a goldfinch.  Gotta love three primary colored birds at once!

Add an Oriole and it's beautiful enough to make you cry!

Beautiful shot of an indigo bunting, Mel.  Haven't seen all that many out here--they're pretty uncommon, locally--but I used to see them in the midwest.

It's hard to do them justice in a photo--for those who haven't seen one, the deep blue has a subtle, shifting irridescence.

Mel, this is the western version that we see more often than indigo buntings:

A lazuli bunting.  They're very closely related to indigo buntings, and the two occasionally hybridize.

Again--nice photo you got this morning, screened window or not.   Smiley

I've seen the Lazuli Bunting, but had no idea what it was other than pretty.  Never saw an Indigo Bunting to my knowledge, but now I'll know what it is if I see it.  (If I see it reaaly soon! Grin)

George- that one is beautiful!!

Well, I have yet to see anymore indigo buntings.  Seems like they (or it?) was here for that day and then moved on.  Makes me sad!

Oh well, at least the hummingbirds fill the void!  (Lily took this picture out the bay window...)

Loved seeing the picture of the rubythroat, Mel.  The black-chins have been coming to our feeders the past couple weeks.   Smiley

Not such a variety of visitors here in the city that I've noticed but your picture captured a recognizable flock of spring and late summer nesting guests, the yellow crested dandylion, we seem to be on their migratory path also.  Winds have been favorable for their fuzzy fledglings' first flight.  They're back, so cute.
