Depomedrol...anyone had this?

I've been in a really bad cycle for 11 days now. I've had 3 hours sleep in the last 72 hours. Today, I had enough (the at home meds wern't working, and I gave up) and went down to the local ER (5th visit in the last 11 days) where the doc tried something new. He gave me a steroid, Depomedrol, 80mgs as a shot in the butt.

Anyone had this done before? Should I ask for it more often?

Any input is greatly appreciated..

Depomedrol is basically a corticosteroid.  It's doubtful that only one shot will end your episode (though it will give temporary relief).  Most people find that a follow-up with a Prednisone taper (about 10 days) can sometimes totally end a cluster attack.

I've never taken Depo, but have taken the Pred taper - always while also starting high dose Verapamil.  That way, when the Pred taper is over, the preventative is kicking in.

I wouldn't recommend becoming dependent on Depo.  Try the polymed approach first.  Pred taper, Verapamil or other calcium-channel blocker, and a good abortive like Oxygen or Imitrex injects.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi Depomedrol is a glucocorticoids steriod.  Like any other you can not stay on it for very long it causes severe side effects with long term usage.  It might help it might not.  However, remember that it does supress your bodies immune system to certain invaders.

Good Luck
