Title: Chronic Paroxysmal Hemecrania
Post by SusieQ1 on Feb 4th, 2006, 11:47am
Does anyone suffer from chronic paroxysmal hemecrania and what preventatives or medications do you use?  I have been on indocin (which works for the pain) but does not work for my blood pressure!!!!  Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

I do not have PH yet I have idiopathic stabbing headaches (icepiks) along with CH.

the ice piks like PH are nearly 100% responsive to indomethacin/indocin.

I do not know aht to tell you about you blood pressure though.

Is it high or low?

I didn't realize that the NSAID would effect that.

Anyway you already have your answer in dealing with the pain and know how to keep the away.

Talk to your doctor about your BP!

Good luck controling your blood pressure because that is like the only medicine that works for e(eposodic)ph and c(chronic)ph.  AlienSpaceBabe sufferes from eph.  You may want to contact her and see how she fairs.

I took indocin for 5 months and was pain free then the medicine stopped being effective.  Have tried it again off and on and still no luck.  It didn't effect my blood pressure.  i think if I remember correctly I was only taking 50mg 3x/day.

What is the difference between  paroxysmal hemecrania  and Cluster Headaches? They sound very much alike.

From what I have heard and seen.  They look identical to ch except for the length of the ha.  That is what makes them different.  EPH will last 15-30 min. avg  Where ch lasts a couple of hours or longer.  So you are getting hit more frequently durring the day/night with eph than with ch  That is my understanding of it until I am corrected.  I really hope you find something that works for you.

Differ in duration and responsiveness to medication.
Will be suppressed nearly 100% by indomethacin a NSAID where CH will not.
