Post by agonymum on Feb 11th, 2006, 5:25am
hi , ive been away for a while suffering from awful depression.
my clusters are still hounding me every 4 hours , have been since last october . im wishing every day for the end to come soon.
last year the cycle ended in april , it seems a long way off .
anyway , ive been perscribed gabapentin , and i was wondering if anyone had had any success with this drug.

Gabapentin is neurontin.........

The only thing it did for me was make me violently sick.

A few here have mentioned it, one or two having some success @ high doses.

so sorry you're hurting!!

I was on it for 5 years. I think that for me, it helped to keep the intensity of the attacks lower, but it didn't prevent any hits. As time went on, I had to increase the dose in order to get the same effect. I was taking 1800 mgs a day and still getting hit.  :-/

Hi again agonymum! I know we've spoken before and I've been wondering how you were doing.
We need to get you some proper help and fast I think. Please give the OUCH UK helpline a ring, it's an answerphone so ring up and leave a message and one of the officers will ring you back. They are all sufferer's too and know what you're going through and they can and will help.
The telephone number is  0161 272 1702
Let us know how you get on okay?
love
Helen

spoke too soon , hit at 12 midnight and again at 4am as usual.

its 5am now and its finished , i feel so depressed and scared again .
how can that happen ? surely it cant be a placebo! i could never think my way out of it , im so confused im going to double the dose tomorrow and see if that works again.

i have a neuro apt. on 25th of this month , my first one , so maybe i will get some peace from that .

thanks for listening and for being there . x

agon:  Darn it!  I can feel for you.  I have the same set of emotions when I get hit.  YOU WILL FIND SOMETHING THAT WORKS FOR YOU.  For me it has been 9mg of melatonin and 480 (2x240) of Verapomil.  O2 usually helps as well.

Relax as best you can and try to fight the depression as best you can.  Rant here, scream here, whatever you need.  We have all been through it (most of us, at least) and you will make it through too.

Prayers for a PF tomorrow (and many others after it!)

May you sleep the whole night and may the beast forget to set his alarm!

I too am off to bed.

Have a great night and remember that there are a million things to try and eventually, you WILL find some relief.  The beast just doesn't make it easy.  Use the resources here to the fullest and keep smiling.  Sometimes a smile and the knowledge it will get better can make a world of difference.

Again, good night and here's to a PF tomorow (and many others after that)

hi ,

i wanted to update you on the gapapentin .
i did double the dose , taking 600 a day and it has helped alot .
my HAs are much lessoned in intensity and shorter in duration.
not sure whether this is corresponding with a natural tailering off of this cycle , but im not complaining .
ive only had one bad hit , in the night at 3am , which was my usual time , in last 5 days .
previously i was getting hit every 4 hours , day and night .
:)

wishing you all pf times xxxx

I was on 1800 mg Neurontin and I felt like a wet noodle living inside a space capsule.  I took it as directed and increased it as directed and the results were not good.  I actually think it has lengthened my cycle. I hope it helps you.
