Title: Antibiotic question
Post by FramCire on Feb 18th, 2006, 7:19pm
I started an antibiotic for strep on Monday and ever since my headaches have moved from annoying shadows to worse.  While they haven't hit kip 8, they are worse.  Has anyone had problems with anti-bioltics either not allowing your meds to work or them being a trigger?

(I am on 480 of Verapamil (2x240) and 9 mg of Melatonin at night)

No, I used antibiotics for a gum infection during a previous CH episode and I don't believe that antibiotics have an adverse effect on CH or interfere with the therapeutic effects of verapamil or melatonin.

I am on antibiotics more often than I'm not for a chronic skin condition (hidradenitis suppurativa), and have noticed no correlation between the two for the better part of 20 years. In fact, I'm on two different antibiotics right now (cephalexin and rifampin), while taking my regular prophylactic CH drugs (verapamil and lithium). I haven't had as much as a shadow since September, 2005.

Wish I could help you out, but it doesn't look that way.

During the first year I was hit (early 1990s), I went to the doc and was diagnosed with sinus infection, put on antibiotics, and the headaches ended shortly after that. I did have sinus problems, and thought it helped. Of course, it could have been a short cycle regardless and the antibiotics may not have had any effects.  And it could be that it makes things worse for you - antibiotics are pretty powerful and can disrupt all kinds of things in the body at the same time as they are zapping bacteria.

Which one of your cherubs gave you strep? ;;D

I have three kids (11, 7, and 7weeks) and I was taking an anti-biotic last week...I think that sometimes it's the sick that makes my head worse. This time I only got a meegraine. And in the past, it never has prevented meds from working.

Be well and PF!

Both my kids (1.5 and 3.5) had strep (and ear infections) and they gave it to my wife and I (we taught them to share!).

Well, they're learning young, aren't they? Let's hope you get this level of cooperation when they're teenagers. ;;D
