Title: Varapamil taper question
Post by FramCire on Mar 3rd, 2006, 10:15pm
I didn't get in touch with my CH doc and I have been PF for 36 hours or so and qeirdly it has been since I stopped (by accident) taking my verapamil.

Should I still taper?  If so, should I wait until I am a week PF?

If I taper, should I go to 240 (am at 480 now) for a few days... then 120??

Just asking for advice.  Meant to call Dr.

When I taper verapamil it is usually in about 48 hours I know if it was a bad idea but usually it would be from 480mg to 360.

Call your doc, don't just stop the verap. You can have blood pressure issues... you need to gradually come off of it.

Congrats on PF time.

Be careful. When I wanted to quit taking verap, my doc said that it should be done gradually or I'll end up in ER.

I'm so happy to hear that you're PF! That's fantastic! I waited that I was PF two weeks before I begun to drop my 600mg daily dosege. I didn't want to risk that my chronic ch would return.

My doc suggested that I taper the dose in every 3 days which I did. No problems. ;;D

Good luck! And lots of PF time!!! :)

I've used Verapamil (up to 360 MG a day) for close to nine years. Typically once the CH are gone my doc has me wait  one month to be PF and will stop me cold turkey. I've had other doctors who tapered me off, but I've never noticed a difference. If the CHs are gone they are gone.

It's best to taper off of just about any of the medications we take under supervision/instruction of your doctor.

Tapering off too soon may re-initiate a cycle.

Tapering off too fast may result in unintended  neuorlogical, physical or psychological issues.

Here are a two online prescription drug references that can help you understand use/discontinuance of the meds. we take. But consult with your doc. first.
