Post by tigerman on Dec 18th, 2007, 6:22pm
Saw the neuro doc @ 330 finally and she asked me questions,I answered, and she hands me a script of prednisone, verapamil, and amitriptyline.& 4 Zomig samples.I feel better already.I would hope that I dont need the oxygen too,but going back in 3 weeks, ask then if I need it.I was up 4 times last nite and to stubborn to use the zomig I had,Only had 3 was saving for CHRISTMAS.

There were no tests run,she asked me questions ,I answered ,handed me a script,I saw verapmil and I asked if there was a name for my condition and she replied CLUSTER.I told her i had been reading this website and thought so too.
Verapamil 120mg twice daily
prednisone 10mg 3,2,1per week
amitriptyline hcl25mg before bed
pulse was 100,& I am no good @ relieving stress
she said lets see if we can get you some rest tonight
The other 4 or 5 cycles I went through over the years I could deal with
with just a few samples, this time I think my KIP was to high to often with hits, thought I was gonna break if I didnt seek a professional

I would think that oxygen would be your "go to" abortive. But to each his own.

She never said a word about oxygen and I aint gonna bring it up unless I feel the need. She made me an appt. for 3 weeks,if I tell her I need more I dont foresee a problem.Remember my last cycle was Oct2005,lasted 4-6 weeks.for some reason the freezing my head and scalding it always got me through but I never panicked like this time,& the hot cold wasnt as helpful

Melatonin, 9-12 mg at bedtime, helps some of us with night time hits, as does benadryl.

Coffee and caffeine are fine with what you're taking. Sounds like you lucked out and found a doc with some CH knowledge! I have an adorable little nurse practitioner, (she's my daughters age!!!!), so I know what you meen by falling in love. When you find someone in the medical profession who understands what you're going thru it's a "wow" moment!

What some of my ....ahem....less diplomatic......compadres are trying to say is don't be so hesitant about the oxygen! Once you get over the idea of the funny little tanks they become your best friends and closest companions.

Congrats on finding the doc. Hoping your cycle shuts down soon and gets you some rest. Take care.

Look, bub - oxygen ain't a drug. It's a gift from God. It should be the first thing you try to abort, not a last resort.

And so i am a pill head cause I am doing what the doc prescribed me????????by the way if I dont have a cluster within a week I will stop taking that stuff & hope it wasnt to soon.
no shit its an element
Im not a very nice person?WTF

So yall only do oxygen? And nothing to kill the cycle ?Are yall chronic sufferers and it dont matter?Do you make money off each tank sale?
I wouldnt have even gone to a neuro but I dont miss work ,but was probably fixin to
If I have to keep takin pills I will demand some oxygen, but i hope the cycle is over soon and doesnt ever return.
This is ridiculous my wife thinks Im an idiot now

Take your head out of your ass and listen to what we're saying - There are preventative drugs, there are abortive drugs, there is oxygen, and there are other methodologies. There is not one sufferer on whom all of these work. Why would you not want to try the most natural abortive there is, oxygen? It works for a reported 70% of sufferers, and I'm convinced that 90% of the remainder just aren't doing it right.

I use preventatives - I'm currently on lithium and methysergide. I've been on others and left some because they didn't work and others because I didn't like the side effects. When I get breakthrough headaches, the first thing I do is go for my oxygen bottle. I keep a big one at home and smaller ones in my office and in my car. It works great for me - aborts in 10 minutes or less.

I'm now finished communicating with you unless you decide to check your attitude at the door.

'and I aint gonna bring it up unless I feel the need."

abort one headache with 02..and you'll be convinced that it is so much better than the dangerous drugs you're putting in your body.   I don't think I've ever heard a lamer excuse.  ::)

You say it wasn't offered?  Most of us have had to do all the research...hours and hours of it.  WE have had to educate the Doctors and ask for what we need.  Most of them don't have a clue.  Not all, but most.

Well I am feeling much better now,the doc said she was gonna get rid of the pain & maybe stop the cycle.Zero CHs since the last one Monday morning. The Amitriptyline is throwing me a curveball, but the wife has always wanted me to get on an anti anxiety.Me/I like being high strung!Thinking about stopping all those pills when the week is up and see if the cycle is broken. Not sure, for fear of the extreme pain coming back.If the cycle is over Maybe I wont have to deal with it again for 2 years.
Will talk to the doc about the oxygen when I go back.Still have my 4 Zomig samples.
I apoligize to VVet2 and brewcrew ,I am new to neuros, not pain, always managed 2 get through it before.Maybe getting older is not helping?
Hope for everyone to have a safe &happy holidays.WWW3

Every single one of us were new to the Neuros at one time.  That is what is so great about this site and all the people in it.  We've all learned the hard way.

When someone new comes in we offer our advice as to what works and how to approach a Dr.  We do it so the newcomers don't have to go through the hell we had to.

Giving one more plug for the 02..Linda  ;)
