Title: 5 hour energy drink? HELP
Post by beachmusic on Apr 24th, 2008, 9:57pm
Does anyone know how this drink compares to a Redbull?   I do know that this drink says  is  2 oz vs. 8.3 so that says a lot and it has 4 calories vs 110 but I am trying to find out about the caffiene and taurine content.  I hate Redbull so if I could swig down something much quicker it would be so nice  :)

It  is supposed to be sugar free and full of vitamins but hey it may be toxic..... :o :o

Hey.....can't say I have ever heard of it but please tell me you are still pain free.  I cn't stand the taste of most energy drinks but the one I can stomach is the Rock Star mix of orange, mango, passion fruit.  Doesn't sound like a manly drink but the other stuff makes me gag trying to guzzle it

Kevmd,

Rockstar has 3 more new ones that actually taste good. They are all coffee based. The caffeine is a little higher at 120 instead of 80, but they do taste good. The first is Roasted Mocha, then Roasted Vanilla, and finally Roasted Latte. They have a little more umph than the starbucks double shots and taste more like coffee. I recommend them highly.

what is the actual name of the drink?  If it is supposed to last 5 hours i'll give it a whirl-

Maybe somewhere in the thread I missed the name- surely it can't be called HELP?  :)  or is it?

I've seen some of those little bottles at gas stations etc.
The only one that I've read the label on showed Caffeine
as the main ingredient and promoted vitamin content
also.  I didn't notice any Taurine on the label of that one
but there are several different ones on the market.
My understanding is the Taurine gives your system a
boost to absorb the caffeine faster.

You might want to try a google search of the brand or Mfg.
and see if there is any info that way.

Appears to have the right stuff in it, but if that web page gives amounts, I can't find them.

They sell them in almost every liquor store.

Right there at the counter. Little itty-bitty container.  Price of  $3.99 in California is a big turn-off for me.   Give me my rock star..

There you go.  You posted while I was typing LOL ;;D

Caffeine
Provides a boost of energy and feeling of heightened alertness. Caffeine also facilitates the rapid absorption of nutrients, including B-vitamins. 5-Hour Energy contains caffeine comparable to a cup of the leading premium coffee. Limit caffeine products to avoid nervousness, sleeplessness, and occasional rapid heartbeat.

Taurine
A naturally occurring chemical substance present in meat, fish and dairy products. Vitamin B6 is required by the body to synthesize Taurine from other nutrients. Adult humans have high concentrations of Taurine in white blood cells, skeletal muscles, the heart and central nervous system. It plays a role in digestion, and is used to process potassium, calcium and sodium in the body, as well as maintain the integrity of cell membranes.

While it doesn't give the mg of each Taurine is the first item listed for ingredients.

It's odd that it doesn't clearly tell how much it contains taurine. Back in here all the energy drinks mention it clearly, which is great, because some of them do not have enough of taurine/caffeine to be useful.

I'm gonna pick one up today and try it.  If it lasts for 5 hours it maybe cheaper in the long run than Rock Star.

It would be interesting to know any positive results from 5 hour energy as purchasing an emergency red bull can sometimes be difficult.  These little suckers can be kept in the glove compartment, etc.

The price would be the biggest drawback to me.

I use those 5 hour energy drinks. Also come in 6 and 8 hour.

They fit in your pocket and you can find them on ebay for around a buck apiece. I don’t know the tauren content but they hit you like a ton of bricks. I have aborted attacks with them just like redbull :)

They taste like s%^t because they are sugar free, but at least it’s only one shot  :P

Thanks, Deb
Lemme know if you hear anything.  I bought one today and will give it a try, or maybe 1/2 of one.  Those things sound strong [smiley=eek.gif]

Well, I bought one of those things and tried it.  Slugged it to get the full effect, you know...

Needs sugar.  That artificial sweetener stuff just doesn't cut it for me.  BTW, phenylketoneurics be advised.

Tasted a bit like warm liquified fruit-flavored Life Savers, if you can imagine such a thing.

I don't know how much taurine is in it, but I doubt that it's a lot--you know that "icky" taurine smut-flavor in the back of your throat?  It's missing.  Good amount of caffeine--a zing like a cup or two of coffee.  And something I've never gotten from any energy drinks I've tried:  A niacin rush.  (Mild flush to face and hands, a not-unpleasant tingling sensation.)

I'm out of cycle, so I don't know whether it would have the same Beast-Quelling effect as a Red Bull.

Let it never be said that I'm not willing to be a guinea-pig for you all.    ;)

Best,

George

Walgreens carries it also.

I tried one on Friday as I was riding my motorcycle back from Virginia and developed my usual lower level afternoon kip.  I  slugged the little sucker down (grape flavor, I think), and fairly quickly the symptoms disappeared.  Probably a bit quicker than red bull.

I believe that the stronger version would be better, because a couple hours later I had developed another.

Experimenter,  :D

John
