I have been a sufferer for 20 years. Seventeen years were chronic and the last 3 years have been episodic, so I know the agony all too well. I have just been in a severe cycle recently when I went to a new doctor here in St. Pete.,FL, Dr. Michael Yaffe. He goes to headache seminars, so he may be more informed than most. (Please consult your physician with the correct dose): He gave me 2 injections, one on each side, at the back base of my skull where the neck muscles are located (occipital area?). The injections were: 2 cc's of DEXAMETHASONE, with 1 cc of MARCAINE (0.5%). MY CYCLE WAS 98% BROKEN!!!! I WENT FROM 4 to 6 attacks a day, to 4 minor attacks in a 2 week period that were easily aborted with AMERGE that I take as an abortive. I am also taking VERAPIMIL and seem to get additional benefits from that. But when I had the injections, almost as the needle was going in, I noticed an immediate relief!! I can now feel safe in public, knowing that I won't have to hide in some dirty public bathroom for an hour or so, as I bang my head on the disease ridden sink and cough like I'm dying. (I cough as opposed to crying or whatever because it breaks up the pain for a split second and I can catch my breath and gather my strength for the rest of the battle). I also have one additional symptom that I don't read much about. During an attack, I break out in a sweat that covers my entire body and drips off of me like someone was slowly pouring a glass of water over my head. I have to mop up afterwards and wonder why I have ANY bodyfat whatsoever because of the extreme fluid loss. I've sweat less running cross-country for my high school team!!!! I sincerely hope this info can help someone out there because it really saved me this time. I was told it may not work for everyone (like most sufferers have experienced), but I'm certainly glad the doctor tried this on me. Thanks for listening. Al Kumick.
