Title: 5-HTP
Post by talitha on Jan 2nd, 2003, 12:42pm
5- HTP Anyone heard of this?  It's suppossed to be a percursor of serotonin...I found one bottle of it at K-Mart and thought I would give it a try.  All the serotonin info I found talks about the receptors.  Is this a real thing or just a sugar pill?  Any thoughts or input would be appreciated-my doctors appointment isn't until the 8th and I can't self-refer to a neuro so I'll do what I can to get through-this is the longest episode I've ever had (3.5 months)
thanks y'all
and Happy New Year

Took it for months, just to see if it would do anything.  It didn't.

As a clusterhead, your problem is not so much the quantity of 5HT that you have as it is the mechanisim that controls when it is released is screwed up.  In other words, you probably have plenty of 5HT available but the flood gates just won't open ( your hypothalamus is fungo).

Thanks Bob.  I read through everything on 5 HT receptiors ect...wasn't sure that increasing the amount of serotonin would help but thought it might be worth a try.

Hi Talitha.  I also took 5-HTP, however, Bob was more patient than I.  I only took it about 2 weeks and gave up since it did not help.  I figure if it ain't gonna work in 2 weeks it ain't gonna work at all.

Good luck.  Linda T
