Title: Ear infection and 02?
Post by ckelly181 on Nov 10th, 2003, 2:10pm
Just gathering info here:

Within the past week, I have gotten a painful ear infection. I haven't had one in over 30 years. I'm wondering if it might be related to the O2, since this is the only new "med" I've been taking.

I have a neuro appt. in a few days, and am amassing info from this site...just wanted to see if ear infections are a common occurrence.

Thanks,

Chris

Never heard of O2 effecting your ears that way.  Although if the O2 opened up your eucreasian (sp?) tubes then maybe an infection from your sinuses will cause on Ear infection.

Only my  [smiley=twocents.gif] but ask the doc.

- O2 doesn't open the Eustachian Tubes at all
- O2 doesn't cause a middle ear infection
- but: If you don't change or desinfect your breathing mask on a  regular base - i.e. after ±one week of use, the system can be overgrown by germs and, inhaling them, you can catch a respiratory tract and/or a middle ear infection.

Good point Thomas...the same can be said for the humidifier (if used).

Aha - interesting. I'll bet between hauling the thing to work and having a dog, I don't clean the mask enough...good thought.

Thanks!
