Title: Inderal
Post by catboy on Dec 16th, 2003, 8:04pm
My daughter has chronic clusters...no breaks ever. I had a friend tell me that her doctor put her on 10mg. of Inderal, 2xs daily and she hasn't suffered since. It is an hypertention drug. Has anyone out there had any experience with this drug for clusters?  Thanks

Inderal is a beta-blocker blood pressure medication...used for migraines more often than CH.  More commonly, calcium channel blockers (verapamil, etc.) are used as a preventative for CH.  There has been some that claim relief from Inderal, but the numbers are much lower than verapamil.  How old is your daughter?

I am taking Inderal now and it is not doing a thing.  I took it once before, but in a larger dosage and it worked.  This 20mg at night doesn't work for me.

Chris and Paigelle, thanks for your replies. My daughter is 41, with 4 children she homeschools and has a crazy, but somewhat doting husband...need I say more?? :-/
I figured that the Inderal was more for migraines, which she also has several times a week. Is this unusual to have both? She says the migraines are a piece of cake in comparison.

Inderal was great for me the first time around.  But I was taking 90mg per day.  I have both migraines and clusters.  She is right, the migraines are a walk in the park compared to a KIP 5 cluster.  She needs to get a good abortive.

CH in itself is not common...there are quite a few here that suffer from CH and migraines though.  I agree with Paigelle about the abortive...once that is in place, then fool around with the right combo of meds for a preventative.  Keep us informed about her please.

Chris
