Finding some relief...

Ya'll can bust my chops if you want to, but I thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else wants to give it a try.

I'd tried melatonin in the past and it never seemed to help, and My specialist Pam had said to try Benadril to get me sleepy, and that didn't do jack either.

Well, I decided to try an experiment and it's been working for two weeks now to eliminate the REM phase of sleep and get me through the nights.

I've combined the benadril and the melatonin at night.  6 mg's of melatonin and 50-75 mg's of Diphenhydramine nightly 45 minutes before bed.

I wake up groggy and like I have a mild hangover, but thats preferable to one to two hits every night.  Couple good strong cups of coffee and I'm wide awake.  I still get heavy shadows almost daily and some daytime hits, but the lack of night time hits has dropped the count dramatically.

I thought it might be worth a shot for anyone else that hasn't has any luck with melatonin, or minimal luck to maybe change the effectiveness.

Open for flogging now... laugh

You'll get no flogging from me girl - it's whatever floats your boat!  If it works, good for you.  Not sure if that's a good combination or not but sure understand the need for sleep.

Keep us posted.

I'm not in cycle right now---but take melatonin 3g every night----thought I had an itch from it---so starting taking a benadryl with it-----that seems to work. Been getting some shadows and this seems to eliminate them. Of course it could just be in my head. Sophie twocents

It started as fluke actually.  I decided to begin melatonin again when i found a different brand, It's called Natures Bounty.  So I had been on my second night with it, and that night my back was killing me.  So..I had some generic tylenol PM's, and I took them with the melatonin hopeing my back pain would ease a bit and I'd fall alseep faster than usual.  (Normally I toss and turn for at least an hour...)

So I was chatting with some dude online, and I started to feel very tired.  Went to bed and...I slept threw my usual 3am wake up call.  Normally I've become so accustome to it that I wake up then even if I'm not getting hit.  Well I didn't.  So I thought to myself to try it again the next night.  Worked again...slept right through.  The alarm is not my friend, as I'm so groggy I hit the snooze a time or two, but night time hits are history.

As I said does nothing for the daytime shadows and hits, but OHHHHHH the PF nights.... shore sayyes

Good on you Pegg - maybe you've found the key - most of us can relate to those sleepless nights.  I'll likely be scrolling back like a mad fool when it's my turn again trying to find this post so I too can get some sleep then.
