Title: CH and Caffine
Post by sdasprsrock on Dec 21st, 2004, 1:57pm
 Hey board,
I am in the middle of my cycle, but have been able to kill the beast first thing in the morning with a good dose of caffine that usually lasts throughout the day. However, if I don't take it before I start feeling the warning shadow(usually a half hour or so after I awake in the morning), im pretty much screwed the rest of the day and will get 2 or 3 CH's that day no matter how much cappucino I pound down. My CH's are pretty minor now days and usually the worst ones are only enough to make me cry(7 or 8 kip), but never scream or wish for death like my night attacks I used to get years ago. Have any of you had luck with caffine? Or is it just me?

A large number of us luuuv caffeine.  I would guess that most of us find it soothing but not that effective. The beast usually can't get to me unless I let myself sleep, and I don't wake up to drink coffee until it is too late.   Some people say that they can often stop a cluster if they do vigorous exercise right at the begining of an attack, but if they wait, it doesn't help.

In the long run, too much caffeine can reduce melatonin production and do other things that may make the headaches worse. But short term (between hits or during a minor hit) I like a cup or two.

The big "C" helps me with shadows sometimes.  But, unfortunately, has never helped with the biggies.  An episodic CH on the rise for me means I head straight for the Trex.

If it works, go with it!

Kris
