Tegretol

My neuro retired and I am back working with my PCP.  He seems really enthusiastic about trying a few more things that the neuro dismissed as worthless.

Has anyone had any luck with Tegretol - the generic for it is carbamazepine?  It is an anti-convulsant and is used also in treating Trigeminal Neuralgia.  I take 100mg twice a day.  Not noticing much of an effect yet, but it is early.

Just trying to get a feel for what is in store for me with this medication.

Thanks,

Gator

My boyfriend has been on it for 20 some years for migraine-induced seizures.  It was the first med he ever tried, worked right on the first try, and he has had very few side effects from it.  Lucky...  And yet he complains at me for anything I bring up about headaches when OBVIOUSLY I haven't found a solution.

Well, I haven't tried tegretol.  He's had good success is all I can say!  I'm a little leery of taking another epilepsy drug after all the problems I've had on them...but that's just me!

Carbamazepine has an almost 100% success rate for Trigeminal Neuralgia. It is also useful to make Zombies, but for other headaches it's nearly of no use.

The list of possible side effects is frightfully long, see

Have never had to take Tegretol for anything, but have been in several homes with a member that has used it. Keep a spray bottle of disinfectant next to the toilet, along with a roll of paper towels.

It can re-define Hi-Stool,

Thanks for the link, Ueli.  Now I know where the "crickets" came from.  Been having a constant sound in my ears that is a cross between a ringing and crickets.  Unfortunately, I also still have the ch.  I could deal with the noise if it meant the beast was gone.

Thanks to everyone else as well.  I keep as much distance as I can between me and the PCP, vig.  LOL
