Really, really alternative therapy
« on: Aug 8th, 2005, 8:11am »

Lips Sealed
several weeks ago i was talking with a colleague about my headaches (which yesterday, after a CAT scan, were diagnosed as CH), and she asked if i was interested in "alternative" medicine. i answered, yes, of course.

so, next day she brings me a book about urine therapy!!  Shocked Tongue
the idea of drinking my own pee is a bit repellent to me.

but... now that i am experiencing this savage pain, and know what it is, i have more of an open mind.

does anyone have an opinion or experience with urine therapy??

regards to all,
daniel

Um, are you sure this colleague isn't just BS'ing you? Undecided  I have never heard of urine therapy before, nor would I want to try it. Tongue  What is the name of the book and who is it authored by?  I'm curious to know...

Thanks for the link.  I have never heard of this lady, but seeing the other books shes written, she seems to be all for self help.  Description about the author:

Quote:
About the Author
Martha M. Christy is a medical research writer, international author and alternative health therapies consultant who has been intensively involved in the alternative health movement for more than 25 years. Her books include the international bestseller, Learn to Control Stress with the Stress Test, and also Your Own Perfect Medicine, MSM-The Super-Supplement of the Decade, Simple Diagnostic Tests You Can Do at Home, and Reconstructing the Real You.

Personally, I wouldn't trust it.  I'd try the other alternative routes first (like Kudzu (which I'm doing now) or CB).  But that's just me.

Hey, if you want to try it, more power to you.  Perhaps you could be the first guinea pig for this supposed "treatment"?

the book looks pretty thorough, but the notion that urine could be the cure-all that she and its proponents make it out to be is just counterintuitive.
i am searching for kudzu locally, and will buy some today.

Many of you may laugh, but urine has had success in other areas.  I am just not sure I could DRINK it!

Some of its usages are:
Flushing the ears, to cure ear infections.
Soaking feet in it to cure certain types of athlete's feet.
Urinating on your genitals after sex with a stranger to help prevent STD's
Urinating on cuts to clean and prevent infection

It seems to me that it better used OUTSIDE the body, than internally.  Or at least in "my book" it is!

Hmmm.. After you've already filtered all the goodness out of it once what CAN there be left in it to be good for you the second time around?! Huh
I have heard of it being good for things OUTSIDE the body as Chuck said, hard skin is another one.. but I'd think carefully about this one.. I think someone is taking the piss here mate  Wink

Not for me, thanks. There are 3 wondeful alternatives available now that are working for many. I'm glad you're trying one of those first. If you can't find kudzu locally (look in health food and vitamin stores) it's available online. The fastest shipper is iherb.com, IMHO.

I just does not seem like a good idea, like I said earlier "This is not for me"... I would consult a Dr though, before I tried it, consider the RISK.....

I would much rather die from the TREX, before I drink my Urine....  hurl

i thought this was an open forum so that's why i posted about this subject. i haven't tried drinking my own urine or doing anything else with it. and i really don't want to. i thought i'd post the subject to the board to see if anyone has experience with it or opinion, as i stated in my introductory to this thread. i wanted to learn as much as i could before i even considered trying something as gross as that.

don't be defensive. as you admit, this is pretty bizarre stuff. it is an open forum, and thus any replies to "the bizarre" should be greeted with as open a mind as you expect from others.

Short of the Long Story....

I do not think its a good idea to put the waste, back into your body that your Kidneys Dispell..... It's just my opion....

thank you. no need to apologize, really. i feel like crap, and trying to figure out a way to feel uncrappy. in fact, i feel like i want to puke now,  Lips Sealed and not because i have a stomach ache, it's because i'm terrified of the attack that i know is coming soon.

i agree with you about the whoile urine thing, it sounds completely counterintuitive and gross. i have no intention of doing it. i just wanted to respect my colleague by looking into it and not dismissing right away.

i've been familiar with this kind of "therapy" for a long time and dismissed it years ago as hoooey. but now, since these CH headaches, i was fairly open to at least reading that book.

i'd rather get some kudzu, though.

thanks for your reply and i'm sorry i snapped Roll Eyes

hello all before i became chronic Nov. 1999 i was seeking a shrinks help for depression and pain and the Dr turned me on to a book called "Managing Pain Before it Manages You " by Margaret A. Caudill,MD,PhD. I did some of the relaxation technics to try and help BUT the most important thing i got from this book was the pages i copied pacing activites worksheet, food diary, daily record of automatic thoughts, pain diary, relaxation responce technique diary, feed back sheets and the most important one a sign to put on a door "PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB  I'm relaxing per my doctor's orders" i have keept pages full and since 1996 keept up almost every day to now what a stack of paper work and it helped my Neuro and even helped work (on disability now since Jan 03) understand what i was going thur i think it might help some cluster people and should get this and keep records for your Dr visits or work maybe even some of the relaxation technques might i say maybe work for some it talks about decreasing depression, discomfort, and anxiety it helps you understand the pain process and even talks about meds and their effects. if any one needs maybe just the sheets like i keep i would be more than happy to e-mail them to you if you cant get book or never thought if it might even be able to get it online some how i am just trying to help any one i can Terry

Moraji Desai (former prime minister of India) was a big fan of the 'drink your own' method.

It may help some conditions but could also aggravate others (too much nitrogen/kidney disease.  Not sure whether it would be a way to recycle melatonin or other factors and help CH .  Like most of us, I would rather try other alternatives (all of them) before resorting to this.
