Title: Re: Need some help w/ needles Post by Margi on Feb 1st, 2005, 5:26pm I'm doing some research on this for you, Unsolved and will hopefully get an answer soon. In the meantime, though, your pharmacist should be able to help you figure it out. |

Title: Re: Need some help w/ needles Post by Margi on Feb 1st, 2005, 5:41pm yeah, that was my gut reaction too - that 1 cc=1 ml. But, after that is where my little pea brain just shuts right down. I should know this though. Canada went metric, apparently, about 20 years ago. ::) still waiting for an answer from my gurus for you, but I'm pretty sure you're right about the cubic centimetres/ml thing. Now we just have to remember if there are 1000 mgs in a ml or other way round. ok - DUH - I shook my head and realized that if 6mgs = 0.5 ml, then 3 mgs will equal 0.25 ml. So, on your syringe, does that make it 25 cc's? |

Ummmm... I would just peel the label off the vial and use half of it, or put all of it in the syringe and use half of that. http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5dc20b3127cce9ff6bc9b035e00000016108AcuGThs3bt_ Bob |

Title: Re: Need some help w/ needles Post by Kris_in_SJ on Feb 1st, 2005, 8:20pm Hey Michael - ask a nurse (even a retired one might remember a little). Each of the vials you received are the equivalent of 1 autoinject - 6 mg of Trex. If you need half of that, you want half of the vial. 1 cc = 1 ml To be sure, when drawing up, draw in the entire amount and check the lines on your syringe, then shoot half of it back into the vial. You should find that your particular syringe shows you at .25 cc of fluid. .25 cc on your syringe should equal 3mg of Trex. Kris |

The metric system was defined such that a cubic centimeter of WATER . (under certain specific conditions of temperature and pressure) has a mass of 1 gram. Ask Dr. Math: http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/58484.html |

The common sense approach, usually the best one, the one that I don't always think to use. If you use half, just be sure to switch out the needle for next time, makes for less pain, and probably less chance of infection. Quote:
For those who care: under standard temperature and pressure (STP) T=25degC, P=1 atm. yes, I am a geek. |

3mg = .25cc = 25 units 6mg = .5cc = 50 units You will find the vial has more than 6mg in it. I usually get 1 syringe with 30 units and one with 35 units. Sometimes I get as much as 40 units in the second syringe. I use the ReliOn .5cc, 30 guage, 5/16" short needle. Works fantastic! |

Title: Re: Need some help w/ needles Post by don on Feb 2nd, 2005, 7:12am Just draw the whole thing up, inject half, then cap the syringe for the next use. |
