Title: !!Ok what am I doing wrong?!!
Post by Redd715 on Feb 9th, 2005, 9:01pm
A very very giving family member has UPS'd me a 02 tank and regulator....however, after putting it all together, and trying to turn the dang thing on to test it?

Well....nothing...absolutely nothing happens...no movement in the needle, no nothing?

What am I doing wrong?  The reg only fits one way.

Am I just dense?

HELP!!!!!!!!!

OK.......quick check list.

1. Did you open the tank valve.
2. Did you open the regulator valve.

If you did both of those, then either there's a jam in the flow system/regulator, or the tank is actually empty.

(If you hear a loud hissing sound, other than the exhaust port, turn the tank valve off. Something's really leaking bad.)

If it came by air it may be empty, sometimes the pressure relief valve will open during flight.

I'm guessing here but it sounds logical  ;;D

Hope your not getting hit Redd while trying to get that working

The very top of the tank is the infamous "nob." They make a wrench to fit on that little square nob. That opens the tank. You can use pliers or a vice-grip to open the tank. Before using pliers, cover the nob with a sock or rag. Don't want to grind off the finish or create a spark. Done it that way many times.

Open it VERY slowly, in case you have a leak in the regulator setup. That stuff can WOOSH out of there in a hurry, and it's cold as hell. You'll get the hang of it.

You want, I'll send you one. Gimme the info. In the mean time, stick the hose in your mouth and huff heartily. Assuming you at least got a tube. It would be uncomfortable sucking canned air directly out of a regulator, but.......you're not just ANY woman.

Hey. Extreme point. That O2 regulator is kinda like a gas grill. If you only turn off the regulator, the tank will probably leak out much faster. Make sure and turn that knob on top of the tank OFF every time you're done using it. Conservation is key.

Can't wait to see how you do in a home setting.
RJ

I owed you a "p"

Did a test run on the hose alone.....seems the highest setting is too slow a flow for my set of...ahem....lungs....and they say smokers have trouble breathing.

This is turning into a good tutorial.

WHAT, exactly, is the "highest" setting? Does it have a LPM knob, or just low, medium, high and highest?
Are you pinching your nose shut when huffing? If the flow is too slow, can you concentrate and breathe slower?
It all has to do with the highest setting thing.

It has a dial that turns to an 8.....

remember I'm a virgin to 02 so don't get too technical....

It only goes to 8, huh. Well, there's your problem. Unless you can huff in ZEN mode, or you're a Vulcan, you ain't getting enough flow.

I can send you masks, and I can lend you a high flow regulator, but you seem to be using an E tank. It should be out of gas within 24 hours, if you use it 2 or 3 times. Have you given thought to how you'll refill it before I ship said equipment?

as far as size the tank is just over two foot high and with a radius of about 3 inches.

so you tell me I'm tupid ;;D

Title: Re: !!Ok what am I doing wrong?!!
Post by Mr. Happy on Feb 10th, 2005, 12:43am
OK....you're tupid.

That's smaller than an E tank. You'll be out in no time.
Let's think refill possibilities..

I keep seven "E" tanks (29" tall counting the valve and 4 1/2" in diameter) and two "B" tanks for backback (15" x 3" ).  I usually get 4-5 filled at a time, and I never go into a weekend without two full "E" tanks.

I pay $10 per tank, whatever the size.

Won't go anywhere without it.

jones... like I tole ya on the phone: there are, uh, G A P S in the info on the o2 page. Did you get my email with attachments?

...really... this is a *wrenching* account of what can go awry when folks are faced with operating (heavy/light/moderately complicated) equipment while under the influence of the MOFO....

...on the other hand, we can't be held liable for cases where the operator can't even identify the heel of the boot, let alone read the directions.....
