Post by Backsida on Sep 9th, 2005, 12:03am
Hi,

just weake up with the beast in the background and start to research a bit on cafeine and so I came by exident over the german usenet to a site:
<http://www.sinusbuster.com/thestory/index.html>

Do anyone of you hear (na, for sure)  of 'sinus blaster' or try this out?
Sound like it could be true because I feel this also, the nose is blocked and
if I get a bit fresh air and the nose get free the headache somtimes are immediately go away.
Or is this only a thing who someone try to make money on us?

Yes.
There is likely some validity to the pain relieving properties of capsacin, SB is probably not the way to go. IMHO

It's a scam. It won't work. The trolls have been trying to sell that stuff here for a long time. Don't waste your money.
But, if you must try it, to save some money, just go to the store and get some hot, really hot, pepper sauce and snort it up you nose.
It'll bring tears to your eyes and you will still have a headache.

A double-blind placebo-controlled trial of intranasal capsaicin for cluster headache.

Clinical Immunology Unit, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston 92114.

It has been suggested that treatment of cluster headache (CH) patients with topical capsaicin may desensitize sensory neurons by depleting the nerve terminals of substance P. We attempted to determine whether capsaicin is effective in aborting CH attacks. Patients in acute cluster were randomized to receive either capsaicin or placebo in the ipsilateral nostril for 7 days. Patients recorded the severity of each headache for 15 days. Headaches on days 8-15 of the study were significantly less severe in the capsaicin group vs the placebo group. There was also a significant decrease in headache severity in the capsaicin group on days 8-15 compared to days 1-7, but not in the placebo group. Episodic CH patients appeared to benefit more than chronic CH patients. These results indicate that intranasal capsaicin may provide a new therapeutic option for the treatment of this disease.

Better off eating hot peppers, tabasco sauce, or chili in capsules in my opinion.  On one hand, the makers of that product claim their spray does not cause a burning sensation, on the other hand, it is the burning sensation that depletes the neurons of substance P, which in the medium to long run could reduce pain.

Agree with Floridian... eat some real pepper, it works much better. Everytime I have Thai food I get a PF night.
Thinking about changing my diet.

I'll admit that I've snorted tabasco before, and boy!!!
Hang on to your chair! DON'T DO IT!!!!

Hi guys,

so, after 3 days eating Thais (no no just kidding ) Thai-food - hot and with lot of chilly (my wife is a Thai), I have to say it doesn't help (me) at all.
Just had an attack and a bad one too for over 2 hours and the after-headache (I can't say that's are shadows ) still going on 4 hours now afer the attack was over (Caffeine doesn't help too).
So, sorry that that not work for me because if, it was an easy way to go for me.

I'll be Back

Hi Back,

just a quick question...did the Thai food have any MSG in it?  If it did, it could have counter-acted any of the good properties of the peppers you ate.

I don't really believe in triggers, but I know my hubby is sensitive to MSG while in cycle.  We love Vietnamese food - the spicier the better for him.  One time, we forgot to ask them to hold the MSG and *whammo*, he got hit and hard about an hour later.  Exactly the same meal the next week - without the MSG - nothing.  Just cluster relief from the spicy soup.

p.s. to Rextangle - don't feel bad.  I had Mike shove some mustard powder up his nose during one cycle.  Yeah, he never let me do that to him again.  It was a pretty quiet couple days after that.  ;)

Hi Margi,

yes you are right, after I checkt out all the stuff standing around in the kitchen, I found some were MSG is inside and my wife confirmed that she put this stuff in the food.

But I can not say that I got the attacks (lets say) 1-2 houres after eating.
And she put this also in all the other food she cooking for me.
But we will try now, to let this stuff out of the food.

I'll be Back

Hi,

so I tryed now everything out with the food, hot, not hot, pepper, chili u.s.w.  no MSG but the cluster still stand.

I was visit a doctor here in HK and he (seems) to know cluster. He gave me Imigran nasalspray 20mg. This helped to make that the pain not got so intensive and (?) a attack not so long, but therfor the count of attacks increase to 3-4 times the day (normal I have only one).
The spray is also difficult to organize in HK the doc told me. He say he could get me also injections.  Is this better?

Back.

Injections, if you are going to use Imitrex, are the prefered medicinal abortive.  Many of us (not me :'( ) get good relief from oxygen therapy.  There is a link to that on the left side bar.

Imitrex injections also can be split up into halves and/or thirds depending on how you react to it.  There is a tip for splitting them to the left as well.

Let us know you fair with this ok?

Backsida,
For some people the triptan drugs, like Imitrex, do increase the frequency of attacks.  If I use it, it will take me from 2-3 attacks per day to 6-8 attacks per day.

Back,
Redd is right about the oxygen therapy for aborting attacks. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend. Works great for me.

I get reasonable results from some of the trans-dermal arthritis creams applied to the affected temple and cheekbone. I have used many including some containing capsaicin, but the ones with capsaicin are limited because they inflame the tender skin on the face, I can't handle more than a few applications. Ones with menthol and camphor work and are gentler.
