Title: Amitriptyline
Post by superdave10 on Sep 13th, 2005, 1:05pm
I went to my doctor today and she wants to start me on amitriptyline since the prednisone no longer seems to be working.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Tried it during my recent cluster.  Helped me sleep but didn't help with the attacks.  I think the highest I got was 40 mg / day which is pretty low.  May be the problem.

Ive tryed it.  It does absolutly nothing for the attacks.  It will make you sleep 12 hrs and not care about anything though.  I wouldnt recommend it at all.

Hi,

Tried amytriptyline . Didn't touch the beast but it did make getting out of bed the next morning the single
greatest achievement of the day. Like lead weighrts on every appendage and I wasn't even tired! Yes, I tried to power thru the startup and stayed with it for several months (maybe more, I try to forget experiences like this).

My latest Doc says its no good.

Regards

Also called Elavil there have been some people that have had success with it and achieved pain free status.  You won't know until you try it.  I would and good luck!

for me, it worked after taking it longer than a week, but the side effects are pretty stiff (ha) so I found it wasn't worth it.

keep looking

Elavil helped with the night hits-but Melatonin does alot better.  We all respond differently.

When I first started it (at 25mg at bedtime), it knocked me out and I was groggy half the next day.  The sleep was nice.  The day after sucked.  Did nothing  for the ch.  Within about 3 days, my body adjusted to it and I was back to being awake until about 2 or 3 am.  At the end of a week, doc upped it to 50mg at bedtime.  Again for about 2 or 3 days, I slept well and was hard to get going in the morning.  Now I am back to being awake until 2 or 3 am.  Up at 6 am getting the wife and kids up and off to work/school.  Still getting hit.
