Title: Water X 3
Post by thudpucker on Oct 22nd, 2005, 7:38pm
I've been a water x 3 fan since my cluster headaches started three years ago.  When in cycle, I'll take my melatonin and drink up to 64 oz. of water before going to bed.  If I do have a ha during the night, I'm likely to drink another 32-48 oz. of water before the ha goes away and I return to bed.

A friend was talking to her neurologist a few days ago about the effects of dehydration on various neurological disorders.  She said the neurologist quipped, after noting that cluster headache sufferers tend to drink way more water than most people, "Increased water intake is a good thing for almost all neurological disorders--except cluster headaches.  High water consumption may reduce the likelihood of a headache's occurring, but excessive water consumption after the first headache is likely to precipitate rebound headaches."

That certainly caught my attention.  Has anybody heard or experienced anything similar?

I guess I'll be my own guinea pig for a while and see what happens.

Dang! Hope you sleep near the bathroom.

I drink very little water. Most of the water I get comes from coffee, A&W rootbeer, ice tea. Maybe yes, maybe no. Not all neurologists know what they are talking about.

Never did think much of the water thing.....won't gainsay it, but never thought much of it. As far as consuming mass quantitties of water:

Same here. Coffee, no pop, tea...... more coffee.......and since beer is 95% water, I'm drinking gallons.

Do what works for you, but keep in mind - you can overdo anything.  Drinking too much water can lower the body's sodium levels and cause a condition called Hyponatremia.

Here are a couple articles about it:
