Title: Rebreather mask
Post by jmc1106 on Oct 24th, 2005, 9:17am
When I ran in to get my husband a couple of tanks of O2 last week, they threw in a mask as usual. When we were getting set up, I noticed the mask had no bag, so I called to ask about that. I was told that the nonrebreather mask would not be good to use at lower flow rates (the dr. had prescribed 5-6 lpm, but my husband is actually using 7-8 at first). They said he would be breathing in too much of his own breath with the nonrebreather mask. I know a lot of you say you turn the flow down after a bit, is this really a problem?

the o2 should be prescribed at a min flow rate of 9+ litres a minute and a non rebreather mask is essential for the delivery of 100% o2 so tell them to sort it out ;)

The doctor does not want to prescribe the O2 at that rate if a lower rate will work (which is fine, as long as we can get to 7-8, it seems to work, and we won't blow through the tanks quite as fast). Sooooo, I just need to know of the nonrebreather is or isn't the way to go at that rate. Thank you!

Ypu can still use a non-rebreather and should.....it will just fill up slower.
