Title: CH Shadows and Fresh Air.
Post by JoeKen on Nov 14th, 2005, 12:23pm
:)
At the moment I am only suffering shadows, so be gentle with me and bear this in mind when reading and responding.
Having retired (from work) earlier this year, my time is now my own (unless my wife has other ideas !!), and so I can do almost anything I like at any time (again, unless my wife has other ideas !!). When I feel a shadow creeping up on me my natural reaction is to seek fresh air  -  not always easy when you're a wage slave. Now all that is behind me I can indulge myself. I find that it is often very effective in dealing with shadows, particularly if: -
1)   I can get out there soon enough  -  don't wait until you are sure that it's a shadow,
2)   the fresh air is cool or cold (I wrap up well, obviously),
3)   I can keep active, like a little light gardening, it seems to help by taking my mind off the shadow,
4)   I can stay outside long enough, say 2 to 3 hours sometimes, dependant on how soon I get out there.
Each one of the above has a beneficial effect and the more that apply, the better the response.
Just in case anybody asks, it does nothing to abort a 'proper' attack, but it does make it a little easier to bear.
Anybody else experience anything similar?.
JoeKen.

Actually, yes, fresh crisp cool air helps me when I'm in the shadowlands.  Especially if I chug a mug of strong coffee first then head out.  Have noticed though that if its cold enough to see my breath I can only stay out a few minutes.

Your not alone Joe, in the over six years ive been here I have seen plenty of posts just like this one you have posted. It seems cool fresh air helps lots of folks with shadows, some can even abort a full blown attack by running in cold air.

Keep breathing, Brother!!

sitting outside(bugger wrapping up warm but then i'm young(ish)) coffee in hand shadows stand no chance ;;D ;;D
also whilst at work in my hot stuffy kitchen(not the best place for a ch'er i know but i just love cooking) i have found that even when getting up to k4-k5 if i get chance to go out in the fresh air(coffee in one hand ciggie in the other) i can prevent ramping up to 6 and usually get down to k1-k2 in a matter of minutes ;;D ;;D
an if not i got the bottled stuff ;;D ;;D

I had shadows most of today. About 5 o'clock I went for a walk to get some "fresh air" and have been pain free since. Cold air has also helped abort a real doozie for me.

I have always sought fresh air during an attack. It's just something I "have" to do. Get outside as soon as I feel it coming on. Cool is better than warm and cold is the best.
Funny thing is a cold, dry winter wind can trigger an attack. Go figger.

Fresh air is a definite help for me.  The colder, the better.  If weather's bad outside, I'll crank up the AC and put ceiling fan on high, and just stand right under it, breathing in as deeply as I can. (Hubby freezes his butt off, but he'll get over it)  Doesn't help a full blown hit, but sure helps to keep shadows at bay.

Yup, cold air sometimes helps. Automobile air conditioning vent (preferably American car because of obscenely powerful air conditioners) with face in front at high. Nice image huh?

Did you ever think that it could be wifey that gives you headache ??  It's getting better when you go outside isn't it ?? ;;D [smiley=laugh.gif]

Serious... for me it is also a bit more relief outside when having an attack. Fresh and cool air make me relax.
