Title: My RC Seeds Diary
Post by purple on Dec 6th, 2005, 6:00am
Hi All,

Quick History
Undiagnosed for 10 years. Diagnosed in Dec ’03. Use O2 successfully and occasionally have to use the Imi Jabs. Don’t like using the jabs at all. The two bouts I have endured since being diagnosed have been the probably the longest ever, with the longest ever remission between the two. After lots of research decided to try out LSA seeds.

I have contacted Dr Andrew Sewell at Harvard as requested and have already returned his simple questionaire.

I started the LSA treatment in the  7th week of this cycle, which has been rather long as per my history for this time of year. Must also state that I up until a week ago I had been taking Amyltriptelene (only 10mg a day) to help me sleep at night and due to the stress I was under due to be homeless earlier in the year.

Nov 22nd, 2005    RC Seeds Trial Update Start of Day 1

Had been shadowing since about 4pm yesterday and had to abort an attack with O2 at 6.30pm, so I know my bout was not over for sure. Shadows continued afterwards.

Dosed 20 seeds at 8.45pm (soaked in wine for 11 hrs).
Never really noticed a bad taste, could only taste the wine. The little bits of crushed seed were the hardest thing to swallow but filled glass with water straight away and downed that to wash away the remaining bits in my mouth.
15 mins later started to get a warm fuzzy sensation alternating with the shadows that had persisted all evening. About 3/4hr in the shadows had faded away and I felt very comfortable. Had turned the telly down a bit and dimmed the lights because I thought there was a small sensation of heightened awareness mainly the lights appeared a little dazzling. A little bit like when in a car at night and you squint your eyes at lights around you. Wendy and the kids(15 & 13) were all with me. There was one time when everyone talking over each other just felt like things were just a little too hectic, but I mentioned it and everyone just quietened down a little and all was fine. When I got up to go to the kitchen or bathroom I suppose I felt a little odd but nothing more than if I'd had a couple of drinks.
Overall the experience was neither enjoyable or otherwise. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to be out and about, being at home in comfortable surroundings I'd say is a must.
Went to bed just after 1 and had a good nights sleep. Definite hangover feeling this morning though!

Nov 22nd, 2005,    RC Seeds Trial Update End of Day 1

Today has been a bit up and down. The hangover feeling that I woke with has sort of been with me all day. Around 2pm and 5.30pm I dived for a blast on the O2. Hard to describe but it was as if a heavy shadow was fighting for control with the hangover feeling. I think it has said it is like a battle going on inside his head. I can relate to that.
Also when the 'battle' has been at it's strongest I've noted that my head and neck have been quite hot.
The hangover feeling has been all over my head and the heavy shadow when breaking though has been more on my left side which made it easier to distinguish between the two.
When there has been no 'battle' going on the hangover has just been a niggly thing. I've driven to the shops this morning and was reading a book for a couple of hours this afternoon.
No attacks since 3hrs before my dose.
No other side effects for me like dry mouth or wind!
I asked my partner Wendy if she thought I had any other side effects that she had noticed and her reply was that I'd "been a bit vacant, so nothing new", thanx Wendy!

Nov 23rd, 2005     RC Seeds Trial Update Start of Day 2

Yesterday evening the hangover feeling persisted all night. The 'battle' between hangover and shadow/attack had died down. I was starting to think how much longer is this hangover feeling gonna last. Had a relatively early night - before midnight - and probably had my longest nights sleep for last 7 or 8 weeks. Got up when the kids went to school. The hangover feeling was still there but at about 30% of what it was yesterday. Had a cup of strong coffee and a ciggie and went back to bed for a while. Got up again just before 10am and awoke with a clear head. I feel good for the moment. Obviously hoping it continues.
I approach the day not really knowing what to expect. I am aware that there has been an increase in activity 2 to 3 days after dosing for others, so I'm sort of bracing myself for that. On the other hand as I have said, my cycle could have been nearing it's conclusion, albeit the fact I aborted an attack 3 hrs before dosing. From my point of view I don't want any more attacks (staing the obvious ). So, if I have an increase in activity I guess that shows the cycle had not ended and the seeds will be having an effect similar to other reports. If however no activity occurs, I'll be left wondering did it naturally end or did the seeds do the job.
I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Nov 23rd, 2005     RC Seeds Trial Update End of Day 2

Had a clear head all day long. Feels so good it's hard to believe. No shadows, no hangover feeling.
Calm before the storm maybe, we'll have to wait and see.

Nov 24th, 2005      RC Seeds Trial Update Start of Day 3

Last night around 10pm started to get some activity. It was like a shadow but not the same as normal. Instead of how it normally feels, it did seem as though I was fighting back. It didn't go away and didn't develop into anything else. I went to bed around 2am with this feeling still present. Slept 'til 7.30am (kids up for school). Awoke still feeling the same and a bit snappy.
The feeling is still there now (10.15am). Maybe not at the same level as last night or this morning but certainly noticable.

Nov 24th, 2005     RC Seeds Trial Morning of Day 3 Extra Update

The last 1hr has been bizarre.
I know CH swithing sides is rare, but has happened to me once years ago.

The activity I was having was like a shadow with the beast trying to breakthrough on my left side (left side all this cycle). Then it was if the beast was thinking hold on, if I can't get through on the left side let's try the right side. The areas I tend to rub with my hands and the heat from my left forehead, temple and behind the ear slowly moved to my right side for 20 mins and then slowly moved back to the left side again. (Heat on the neck always seems to be all over not one sided). The activity inside my head did likewise. (These words are the best I can come up with, hope it makes sense). Cannot ever recall having a similar experience, ever.

Nov 24th, 2005    RC Seeds Trial Update End of Day 3

The activity of this morning  had disappeared by 1pm. Even during that activity I didn't have to dive for my O2.
Temperature at head and neck slightly above normal until about 2.45pm
Had a totally clear head since then.
So all in all have general sense of well-being and feeling pretty positive.

Nov 25th, 2005    RC Seeds Trial Update Start of Day 4

Totally clear head since last post!
Feels good.

Nov 25th, 2005    RC Seeds Trial Update End of Day 4

Had totally clear head from the morning until 1.10pm when activity built up fast and had no option but to grab the O2. Aborted after 10 mins with masx. 10 mins later back to totally clear head again. Been that way since then. The attack was the strongest since before dosing. Overall still feeling good about the way the week has been going.

Nov 26th, 2005     RC Seed Trial Update Day 5

Last night started getting shadows around 10.30pm. Waited to see if anything developed but the the shadow just nagged and niggled at me until I went to bed at 1am. Woken at 5.50am by beastie, aborted in 10 mins with O2/masx and clambered back into bed. Then, beastie had the cheek to come and wake me up again at 7.40am. Aborted in 10 mins again with O2.  Didn't bother going back to bed.
Clear head again until 1/2 hour worth of shadows at 10.50am. Clear head since then.

RC Seeds Trial Update Start of Day 6

Last night from 11.30pm had niggly shadows weaker than previous night.
Awoke at 7.40am with quite a low level attack but still felt the need for O2. 12 mins to abort.

Got my 2nd dose prepared and awaiting consumption as from 8pm tonight. Have made sure the seeds will have had a good 24hr soaking.

RC Seeds Update Phase Two Day 1

Yesterday during the day I had a niggly head all day, not quite shadows but nearly if you know what I mean.

Dosed 20 seeds (24hr soaking) at 8.15pm.
Niggly head gone within 15 mins, replaced by warm fuzzy feeling. (With the 1st dose it was like step into the unknown even though I had read others reports. It wasn't that I was particularly apprehensive, it was just what will it be like for me). This time knowing what to expect I was far more at ease. Checked my pulse an hour after dosing and it was 79. (My pulse as I am writing this is 74). I would also add that the warm fuzzy feeling is probably mostly due to the wine as not used to having alcohol in my system. There is probably an additional 'wobble' to the overall feeling when I stood up and went to other rooms in the flat. I suppose the 'wobble feels like I'd drunk more than a little bit of wine. No hallucinogenic effects whatsover. The only other sensation that I was aware of is that of lights appearing to be 10% brighter than normal.

Went to bed at 2.20am and feel asleep straight away. Awoke at 3.58am with a strongish attack coming on. This was on my right side.  (This cycle has been left sided). Aborted with O2 in 10 mins and went back to bed. Awoke again at 6.14am with strongish attack coming on. Used O2 for 10 mins then as pain was subsiding was nodding off again still holding masx to face. Turned off O2 and fell asleep where I was on sofa. Awoke again at 6.54am with kip 9 attack on right side. Dived for O2 again. Extreme tearing and streaming right nasal passage. Stayed on O2 for just over 20 mins.
My head as I write feels exactly the same as it does after bad attack. Internally sore on cluster side.
No all over hangover feeling as experienced after 1st dose. Just feeling a bit tired and sore at present.

RC Seeds Update Phase Two  End of Day 1

Not too much to report as I couldn't stay awake after lack of sleep last night and fell into bed at just after 1pm. Slept until 4.20pm and awoke with a heavy shadow, which I knocked on the head with 5 mins O2 burst. As I type this my head is feeling no shadow or hangover feeling. I'm left wondering whether the 24 hr soaking helped to alleviate the hangover feeling this time as opposed to 12 hr soaking the 1st time.

Nov 29th, 2005     RC Seeds Update Phase Two Start of Day 2

Early evening my head was free of shadows/hangover. The internal soreness following the mornings heavy atack had all but disappeared. Then at 10.25pm at first sign of attack (on right side) dived for O2 and aborted in 7 mins. Felt okay after that up to going to bed at 1.40am.

Woken this morning at 6.26am with kip 6 attack (still on right side) and aborted in 11 mins with O2.

I'm going to try my hardest today to not fall asleep this afternoon!!!

Nov 29th, 2005      RC Seeds Update Phase Two End of Day 2

Had a good day since this morning. Actually made it out to my creative writing adult education course this afternoon. No attacks and no shadows.

Nov 30th, 2005      RC Seeds Update Phase Two Start of Day 3

Last night passed with no activity and went to bed at midnight. Awoke at 7.25am with a kip 3-4 (back to left side) which I aborted in 8 mins with O2. Have felt fine since then, just maybe a slight shadow feeling but it seems to be there then isn't. Last week it was described as a 'battle' going on. And the shadow seems to be losing the 'battle'. As for side effects, there are none. I can't state there is no wind, just no more than normal.

Nov 30th, 2005       RC Seeds Update Phase Two End of Day 3

At 12.55pm had an attack start to come on strong and dived for the O2 and after 10 mins had gone or so I had thought.. 20 mins later it was creeping back up on me. Another 10 mins on the 02 and it was gone for good. The strength of the rapid onset suggested it was going to be of a high kip level but it never transpired that way. Again there certainly seems to be a 'battle' going on in my head which the beast is increasingly finding it hard to win. The rest of the day since then has been shadow free with no attacks.

Dec 1st , 2005    RC Seeds Update Phase Two Start of Day 4

Yesterday evening was attack and shadow free. A little gutted with myself that I didn't take the opportunity to get a good nights sleep. I didn't go to bed until 2.00am as I was surfing the net. Awoke this morning at 6.21am with a low-level attack coming on, which aborted with O2 in 10 mins to be sure. As I write my head is clear, no soreness, no lingering shadows. So that was just over 17 hrs between any activity.

Dec 1st , 2005    RC Seeds Update Phase Two End of Day 4

Had a good morning with a clear head. Stopped a low-level attack (on  right-side) at 1.05pm with O2 in 10 mins or so I thought. At 1.25pm beastie was coming back at me strong kip 9-10 (still right side). Hit the O2 quickly. Tearing, streaming, I was rocking, Wendy applying cold towel to my neck etc. Aborted properly in 15 mins. No particular soreness afterwards. My whole body knew it had been in a fight as it were.
The whole experience was different than what I would normally expect in as much as though I felt something in my head was trying to fight back. Hence why I thought I'd got rid of it at the first attempt.
Secondly the speed in which I returned to 'normal'. At that level of attack I wouldn't feel 'normal' again for twice that amount of time.
Then at 6.10pm at first sign of attack (still right side) coming on dived for the O2 and aborted in 10 mins. Felt okay since then.

Activity was expected as per what info I had read prior to starting seed trial. With that said, I must point out that it has been easier to handle than what I would normally expect. It's quite hard to put into words. I not once felt as though I wanted to reach for a jab to abort a high kip level attack. Never even crossed my mind at the time, that was an afterthought as I'm trying to explain this whole experience.

The only thing that has really got me puzzled is the switching of sides. I can only put this down to beastie trying its hardest to breakthrough. Gonna have to research this phenomena some more methinks.

Dec 2nd , 2005    RC Seeds Update Phase Two Start of Day 5

No activity since last posting. Decided to have an early night so was in bed by 11.15pm. Woke this morning at 7.00am. Couldn't say I had a totally clear head on waking, felt a bit 'fuzzy' (technical term) for an hour. That feeling has since passed and that's all I've got to report!

Dec 2nd , 2005    RC Seeds Phase Two Day 5 Update

The only thing I have to report is that I have passed 25 hrs with no activity whatsoever. No attacks, no shadows.

Dec 3rd , 2005    RC Seeds Phase Two Start of Day 6

Oh well, 36 hrs PF until I was woken up this morning at 5.58am with mid-level attack. Used O2 for 15 mins. Heavy shadow remained but was able to get back to sleep for a couple of hours. Then at 8.04am woke again with something approaching a kip 8 attack. Did 15 mins O2, but not completely gone. 10 mins later I was on the O2 again for a further 15 mins. Still as I write this have heavy shadow lingering. This sort of follows the pattern of 2 days ago.
Anyway I have dose 3 sat in the fridge for this evening, so hoping I get to later on without to much activity.

Dec 3rd , 2005    RC Seeds Phase Two End of Day 6

Heavy shadowing continued all morning and had a kip 5-6 attack at 1.20pm. Aborted in 15 mins with O2. Continued having heavy shadows throughout early afternoon until around 5.30pm. The shadows have not been present for the last two and a half hours. Will be taking my third dose (30 seeds) at 10.00pm this evening.

RC Seeds Trial Phase Three Start of Day 1

No activity early evening. At 10.pm dosed 30 seeds on empty stomach. After 20 mins started to get that warm fuzzy feeling. A bit like being a bit tipsy but nothing more really. Turned off the tv and put some music on and just sat chatting to Wendy for a while until she went to bed. No hallucegenic effects whatsover. No nausea. If anything the warm fuzzy feeling was a bit stronger than before with 20 seeds. But still, nothing more than if you had had a couple of drinks. 2hrs after dosing I was back on the computer in the chatroom with a few other late-nighters.

For me I've found that the whole experience lasts about 5 hrs prior to feeling that I wanted to go to sleep. So at just before 3.00 am went to bed. Slept until just after 9.00am. Have woken this morning with somewhere in the middle of the last two morning afters. The 1st had been a bad hangover feeling and the 2nd nothing at all. The only way to describe this one is like a nice hangover feeling.

I was thinking there may have been some correlation between the two soaking times for the hangover feeling. (1st time 12 hrs + 2nd time 24 hrs). I am now thinking that the 2nd time I may have drunk more water during the experience. I did drink some water last night but maybe not as much as the 2nd dose.

So, this morning there is no sign of any activity at all.

RC Seeds Trial Phase Three End of Day 1

Nice hangover feeling from this morning lost the nice aspect approaching lunchtime. Ended up having a suck on the O2 which took the edge off it. Then I fell asleep for 2hrs and got up around 4.00pm with a clear head. Felt okay since then. No side effects to mention.

RC Seeds Trial Phase Three Start of Day 2

Awoke at 7.40am with a kip 3 that I aborted with 02 in 10 mins. This attack was the first for 42 hrs. Left with a clear head, no lingering shadows.

RC Seeds Trial Phase Three End of Day 2

Had a clear head all morning until 12.58pm. Had a low-level kip2-3 attack which I aborted quickly with O2. Rest of the afternoon and evening I've had a clear head with no shadows.

Feeling good generally and optimistic about how things are going. Aware that some activity may still be awaiting for me before the end of day 5. Whatever happens I shall be waiting until between day 10-14 before deciding whether to dose again.

RC Seeds Trial Phase Three Start of Day 3

Having felt so good last night I was naughty and stayed up until the wee hours and didn't go to sleep until 2.00am. Woken this morning at 6.20am with a kip 3 which I aborted in 10 mins with O2 and fell back into bed. Woken again at 9.00am with a kip 5 which I aborted in 15 mins with O2. This one seemed as though it wanted to hit me harder, hence the longer time on the O2, and yet again there was a sense that there was some sort of 'battle' going on inside my head. No lingering shadows, just feeling a bit tired. Must get early night tonight if possible!

I would like to clarify what I am describing as a warm fuzzy feeling.

Firstly, I would like to quote some of the research I came across in extensive searches prior to starting on this alternative treatment.

Quote:
4 to 8 Rivea seeds should be the range people treating cluster headaches should remain at least for the first dose. If future doses are needed, this number can be modified to suit each individual. You may need to slowly increase the dose size. Begin with a low dose for safety and build higher only if a larger dose is needed for increased efficacy.

Busters 2005

My decision to dose 20 seeds first time was based on others anecdotal reports.
I have had previous recreational experience and knew what could happen.
IMPORTANT - If you are considering this treatment and have had no previous experience - stick to the low dose and go from there.

Quote:
The following are some of the low dose effects that may be experienced:
Nausea or gas - This may be greatly lessened or eliminated by using tea to dose.
Hints of visual patterns with eyes closed.
Sharpening of senses - Colors may seem brighter and sense of smell may seem more keen.
Slight stoning effect - usually manifest as a propensity to giggle.
Animated visual `halo effect' - Objects may appear to `breathe' or become a bit `fluid'.

It is not unusual to feel lethargic the day after dosing. Higher doses are often not needed.
However a more moderate strength dose may produce some of the following effects:
Twitching - especially arms and legs.
Lethargy - body may feel heavier.
Mental confusion - thoughts may become confused or exaggerated.
Hallucinations - common hallucinations include faces and distortion of objects
Altered sense of time - Time seems to slow down.
Currently there is no anecdotal evidence to suggest that an especially strong dose is beneficial for treating clusterheadaches.
In addition, the side effects will undoubtedly become exponentially more extreme and more bizarre. Strong doses will often result in some loss of reality and out-of-body experiences. A strong dose also greatly increases the risk of having a `bad trip'.

Busters 2005

My experiences -

Nausea or gas - No
Hints of visual patterns with eyes closed. - No
Sharpening of senses - Yes
Slight stoning effect - Yes
Animated visual `halo effect' - No

Twitching - No
Lethargy - Maybe
Mental confusion - On first dose for a few minutes when the kids were arguing (stupid of me for not waiting until they had gone to bed).
Hallucinations - No
Altered sense of time - No

hallucination   source encarta.msn.com/dictionary_/hallucination
noun
Definitions:
1. false sense perception: the perception of somebody or something that is not really there, which is often a symptom of a psychiatric disorder or a response to some drugs
2. something imagined: something that somebody imagines seeing, hearing, or otherwise sensing when it is not present or actually occurring at the time ( often used in the plural )

A couple of points here:

1) It would have been useful for us if you'd kept a diary in the run up to the dosing, so that we could contrast before and after.  For most people I suggest a diary that kicks off during the final week of conventional meds (if applicable), then takes in the detox period (if applicable), then the baseline period (post detox, how the CH behaves with no meds, this usually equates to fewer, shorter, and less painful attacks), then the treatment itself.

This provides us with an indication as to whether the meds were helping or hindering, and whether the CB treatment is helping or hindering, both with respect to the baseline.

2) I strongly advocate at least trying sip dosing after at least one of the big doses.  The reports we have to date show that these little doses do not seem to interfere with the big doses.  In order to sip dose prepare 2 batches of 3-4 seeds in water or wine and soak for 24 hours in advance.  Take one batch first thing in the morning, and the other last thing at night.  If desired a 3rd batch can be introduced in the middle.  This should be repreated everyday.  The solution should be gulped down quickly including the crushed seeds.  If this is working it should produce a complete remission.  If the attacks continue as normal then cease the sip dosing.  It's certainly worth trying for those that do not get complete relief between the bigger doses.

3) With the big doses, the solution should be consumed in less than 15mins.  Only the quantity of solution consumed within 15 mins is effective, so anything consumed after than time is wasted.

4) Try and keep regular hours, get some fresh air, and eat regular meals.  Never go hungry, and never over eat.  This helps a lot.  I also recommend drinking strong gunpowder tea at the first sign of an attack.  This is a chinese green tea.

This is awesome.
I need to make a claim here;

Untill yesterday I did not know Purple/ Niel existed. Our treatments began allmost simultaneously. There are so many similarities and again many differences.

Niel.
Whats the normal for you regarding CH. if a normal exists. ie: 24hr frequency, attack duration, non medicated and medicated

Title: Re: My RC Seeds Diary
Post by purple on Dec 6th, 2005, 11:32am
My CH from 1993 was always pedictable prior to using any conventional meds. I always got hit between Dec to beginning of Feb. Then again Sept to October. I would always get hit 3 times in 24hrs. Very occasionionally in the middle of a bout the frequency would go up to 4-5 times in 24hrs. Once always an hour after going to bed, whatever time I went to bed, once around 11.00am and then again at 4.00pm. 80% of attacks would be around kip 7-8 with occasional kip 9-10's and a few lower level kip 3-4's as a bout was ending. Always shadows in between. As far as duration of attack is concerned - from 1.5 to 2 hrs.

Then in Dec'03 when I was properly diagnosed I had access to O2 for the first time and was a godsend. I also had Imi jabs. I was led to believe that using Imi could extend the length of the bout, which it duly did. I was also led to believe it may lead to a long period of remission which it also did. The timing and frequency of the attacks was the same as previously. It did seem that I was geting hit harder than usual.

I did have a couple of minor bouts of no longer than 2wks prior to the commencement of this current bout.

At the start of this bout I did try frova but that lost it's effectiveness after about a week. The timing and frequency of attacks in this bout had been all over the place. Anything from getting hit 3-4 times from after going to bed to around lunchtime. Mostly shadows in the afternoon and early evening. I was also getting no hits for 36 hrs or so then back to 3-4 times a day. Always shadows in between. I was getting no more than 4hrs sleep in one go.

After taking  the seeds I have had more periods between hits that have been shadow free. It also appears that more of a pattern of when I'm getting hit has started to emerge.

Retrospectively I wish I had kept a diary prior to beginning the seed treatment (and would hope anyone thinking of commencing this treatment do so). Considering how all over the place this current bout has been a baseline of normality may have been hard to establish anyway....but still, I regret not having kept a record.

RC Seeds Trial Phase Three End of Day 3

Since activity of early morning, I've had a clear head all day. No shadows.

RC Seeds Trial Phase Three Start of Day 4

As last evening wore on had a shadow intermittently creep up on me. Still, wanted to get early night and was in bed by 11.20pm. Up at 1.20am with what I am now calling a low-level attack. Aborted in 10 minutes with O2. Wasn't at all tired and didn't go back to sleep until 3.30am. Slept until 8.50am, thoug I was aware of a restless night plagued by shadows. At 8.50am I had to abort another low-level attack with O2 in 12 minutes. As this is day 4 of phase 3, and considering the two previous day 4's, this should be the day with the most activity.

RC Seeds Trial Phase Three End of Day 4

Since last post have had some shadows come and go a few times, but that’s it!

RC Seeds Trial Phase Three Start of Day 5

Had a good nights sleep, woke with a slight shadow that disappeared within half an hour. Got a bit of a cold coming on methinks, other than that feeling pretty good.

N.B. After re-reading the kip scale. What I'm reporting as kip 3-4 is not correct. What I have said as kip 3-4 is more on a personal 1-10 scale. So read kip 3-4 as 30%-40% of a kip 10.

Nice report!!  One thing that I noticed with your report though is you get very little sleep and stay up all hours of the night.  The beast tends to feed off of being tired.  Try getting 8 hours of sleep everynight.  It helps.  Otherwise keep up the good work.
