Title: Sleep
Post by Ghost on Dec 15th, 2005, 4:07pm
Any Ideas how to get a little extra sleep till Christmas? I really want to be a little less grumpy for the kids at least on that day. Note I cant use anything that will raise bp, its already a little high floating around 140-190/95-110. also something that is short term dont want to get addicted to anything. oh yea low funds so hoping for like homeopathic type. Sorry for being such a pain but it means alot to me for Wife and Kids to have a good Christmas.

Mike

I've used drops of valerian root. You can buy it at Whole Foods supermarket here in florida, or any sort of natural food place. It comes in drops, tastes like crap, but you can dilute it with water, warm it up, drink and see ya later!

Ambien is the only thing I have been able to take and NOT feel drousey or lousey the next day......it's not a narcotic and alot of times it is sudgested for up to 10 days. Doc gave me the new Ambien CR.......it's not generic so I had to pay 50 bucks for it but otherwise NO SLEEP at all to speak of. At least I can 'fall asleep' on it which is always my biggest issue but I don't always sleep more then a few hours. I HAVE been sleepin better by a bit on the ambien cr.......but finding myself a bit tired and don't wanna get up in the morning which I DON'T like. But then......maybe I should stop waitin to take it at 2 or 3:00 am. Meltdown and counting Pam

Sleep is highly over-rated.

My mother in law swears by a simple cup of piping hot water sipped in the evening.

I know you've tried it but Melatonin 9mg 30 to 45 minutes before bed makes me drowsy enough to get to sleep fast.

Some herbal teas may help but if they don't read Charlie's "It was dark stormy sex" post  ;)

Goat here is something I use, my neuro prescribed it and I take 20mgx2 per night with no side effects.

It is a gelatin capsule and it does not give me a hangover in the mornings, like other sleeping tablets.

Everyone is different I know, but this is the best 4 - 6 hour sleep I got in a long time.  I feel much better during the day and have no interrupted sleep at night, still get the odd hit during the day but nothing during sleep.

Here is the link:

Hope you get something that works :)

One more thing. I posted elsewhere I now have another herniated disk, this one in my neck and can't sleep. Yesterday I saw the neurosurgeon, the one who operated on my othe bad disk last april, and he gave me a script for Lunesta, 3 mg. I took one last night, and slept 7 hours! Woke up 2 times with a very sore arm, but fell back asleep quickly, even with the pain in my arm.

Today I was a bit groggy when I woke up at 6 am (fell asleep at 11 pm), but went away quickly. The only bad thing I see is that everything I've eaten or drunk today has tasted like crap.

Hi Ghost
Don’t know if you can get it in the US but an old favourite out here is strong tea with a hand full of gum leaves thrown in ( leaves from the eucalyptus tree ).
Eucalyptus oil is a natural sedative “that’s why the koala’s you see in doco’s are just about  always asleep as gum leaves are their basic diet”.
If you aren’t able to get the gum leaves try two drops of eucalyptus oil into a pot of strong tea about half an hour before going to bed.
I’ve used this a lot over the years and before anyone come up with a smart remark no it doesn’t make me climb trees.

Kind Regards
Barry
