Title: anbody know about pain clinics?
Post by tsol75 on Mar 16th, 2002, 4:12pm
Hey everyone,

My nuero is pissed at me about my constant questions and emails...knows a lot about clusters but doesn't understand how horrible they are...anyways...I wrote telling her I wanted to be referred to a new neuro and she wrote back, quite pissy I might add, that I can call the pain clinic...anybody know what that is?

Jon

I tried to go to a pain clinic before going to a different neuro.  The pain clinic didn't want me.  I think they dealt mainly with anesthesia and back pain treatments and they are very selective about which patients they accept.  You need a new neurologist.  Generally, if you ask a neurologist to refer you to another, they'll get pissy.  After I dissed my first neurologist (I wasn't comfortable with his treatment approach), I took the issue up with my general family doctor to please refer me to a neurologist who specifically deals with very difficult and severe headaches.  I never even discussed it with the first neuro.  Write down all your questions before you visit a neurologist.  And dammit, a neurologist should not get impatient when you ask questions... that's what they get paid the big bucks for.  It took me 4 specialists to finally get diagnosed and treated properly.  You will probably find answers to some of your questions on this message board, so stay tuned.

The pain clinic in my area is associated with a headache clinic where you can go and see specialists about headaches . They understand the pain and specialize in the chronic pain you are in that is associated with the ha.  I was perscribed morphine for the pain along with indocin to prevent the ha.  However, I never filled the morphine script because I didn't want to go that route.   The dr. did know ha enough to realize I had cph vs ch and put me on indocin and ended 4 years of chronic ha and pain.  So in my opinion you can get good specialists there if they will see you.  The clinics are usually busy and have waiting lists to be seen.
