The band featured will none other that our own "The Triptans"...AKA

Milwaukee's own "Empty Suits"

There are a number of hotels available on the north side of town for overnight stay.  Please let me know if you are thinking of coming, and I can post a list of hotels and their contact information if there are enough people interested.

I'll be happy to reserve plenty of front row seating with blankets an hour prior to show time

Thanks, Pegg. The three of us are planning to stay overnight so we can all meet for breakfast in the morning.

If you're anywhere close, c'mon out and let's make it a CH party! We're playing from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

My kids are with me for that weekend, so it can be a big family affair..bring the kids, big to little, there is a playground just behind the bandshell and there will be plenty of teenagers to keep an eye on the little ones while the adults CHit CHat.

The closer we get to the date, I'll see how many people we have coming and I'll make reservations for a large table for us all at one of the north side restaurants.  I'd personally recommend The Olympic.
Great food, very reasonable price.

Dave - I believe the park is open all day before the band goes on, the idea being that people bring their families when they get off work for a picnic dinner followed by entertainment.

I've never been, so I'm just guessing, but that's what I was led to believe by the people who hired us (UWSP).

I've got some vacation days (and sick days too... ;) ) so lets brainstorm.

I could take the day off work, and see if I can get us a nice area reserved early.  We could consider doing a pot luck.  Cold salads, sandwiches, desserts and what nots of all kinds.  Have a picnic dinner with the band ahead of time. BYOD (bring your own drinks).

Then after the picnic, clean the area up for the others, get ourselves set up for the show with the drink coolers keeping the blankets from blowing away.  CHit CHat till the band starts, then boggie our buns right off.

We all retire at the end of the night to our respective sleeping quarters, and then meet up somewhere for Breakfast in the morning.

Just an idea..if we want to do the pot luck let me know...

I don't think grills are allowed in the park, but I can easily find that out.

I'm getting real excited.

Here is the deal...I'll be providing cold cut meats and cheeses, and probably a cold salad or two.

What would be wonderful to help with the picknic is for people traveling to add things that don't require staying cold, or if you have a little extra cooler room it would be great.

Here is a short list of things that could be devided between partisipants.  Please feel free to sign up for what you want to bring to help out.

Buns for the sandwiches
Chips & dip
Veggie's & dip
Strong disposable plates and plastic forks etc.

Remember that there is no vendors available, so please bring your own drinks.  My two wonderful supporter teenagers will be there as well, so the kids will have a blast.  Little ones will have a nice playground to play on.

I will have blankets laid out to mark out space during the show, for those who don't have lawn chairs along. (hard to carry those on a motorcycle)

The earlier you get here, the better the parking.

PM me for my phone number in case you get lost.

OK, a bit of an update. My wife is busy that weekend, but my daughter may want to go. That would cancel the "motor bikes" because hers is 200cc and that would be a loooooong ride on a sport bike. So it looks like we'll have a car and can bring coolers or whatever you need if we can make it. Still working on the definate answer.

I am up to about 95% sure my daughter and I will be coming. We won't be able to stay the night because "Fish Day" is Saturday here in Port. By the way you are all welcome to come and partake in the worlds largest one day fish fry. It's an annual event here.
Anything in particular we should bring? I have lots of chairs. Any food still needed? Also, what time are you getting there to picnic?

Title: Re: Central WI Party in the Park(updated)
Post by Redd on Jun 22nd, 2007, 12:53pm
I've not heard anything from other about what food they plan to bring from the list I posted.  So feel free to sign up for anything on there.  I'm sorry you can't stay the night and join us for breakfast in the morning.

As far as when I plan to arrive, I'm taking the day off work.  Music starts at 7 PM, I'm sure the Suits and company will be there fairly early to set up in the bandshell.  I'll probably get there about 3-4 with the two teens in tow to get space laid out in front of the stage.  I'm bringing two coolers, one with food the other with drink for the kids and I, and since I'll be there early I'm parking on the street behind the bandshell for an easy walk and carry.

If you have room please bring extra chairs for those who are without.

PM me if you want a phone number to reach me at.

Will there be grills in the park? I could bring burgers and hot dogs if there is, maybe even some stakes. Also the wife is probably coming now her trip to Vagas was canceled.I can't wait.Let me know what was already picked off that list you posted so we don't double up on stuff and maybe if someone lives close enough they could bring a small grill if there isn't one.  ;;D

There are no grills at the park, and they don't let you bring them.  The park right down town on the river, and is part of the Historic Downtown Area.  No grilling allowed except by temp vender permit for the  Riverfront Rendezvous this weekend.

That is why I posted that I would bring cold cuts and cheeses to make sandwiches, and asked if others would care to contribute.  I liked your idea though.

No one has picked anything from the list yet.  Please feel free to put your name on the list for someting/s if you want.

So if you and the wife are making sandwiches I won't need to pick up cold cuts and cheese?  Or is this in addition to the cold cuts?

I picked up the syrofoam plates and plastic cutlery last night at one of the dollar stores so that is covered now.

Fruit tray..Yummy...

If you name your baby William Thomas, I guess I might be able to (Willamina Thumbelina, alternative female rendition).

Don't worry - if Party in the Park goes well, we'll be at Rendezvous next summer (the director will be there Friday to hear us, and it will be like a quasi-audition).

Take care and travel safely! Our love to the entire clan! We'll carry on the party without you, don't fret!

I really wanted to make something yummy to bring with us but because of the length of travel and no frig in the car, I'll have to settle on providing bread/rolls for the sammies (not to mention we just got back from Richcon and there's nothing in the house to eat!).

Maybe I can whip up some cookies or sumpthin' that doesn't require refrigeration.

We three "brews" will definitely be there - and looking at the weather it seems to be cool and dry and perfect weather for dancing.

We'll have some "honorary clusterheads" as well, since some of the band members are bringing wives or girlfriends.  We'll teach them the "leg shake" and the "eye squinch", the "three-pointed-forehead-grab" and they'll fit right in.

See you tomorrow!

Pat

Here's a link to a map - it shows the route from Milwaukee, but it should help. Hell, show it to a gas station attendant if need be.

I wish I could talk Bill and the Band into booking for this every year, and we can make it an annual Party in the Park meet and greet.

If this goes well, and we can talk UWSP into putting a crowbar into their wallet, we're all over it. What they're paying us barely covers the cost of travel and the sound system. ;)

No matter - we're ready to RAWK!

Made it here in atypical "lizzie time" - 1 3/4 hours to Stevens Point (don't do the math - it's 150 miles); close to another hour to drive the five minutes to her house ("lizzie map" appears to be on the blink today - I never get lost....)

Looking forward to seeing you folks at the park! (after we get my watermelon vodka....)

Hey, all you Partiers in the Park - Please accept our apologies, but we won't be able to make to breakfast this morning. Seems I've been stricken with a bit of intestinal upset, and we're just going to get out of Dodge. Home, where the toilet seat is comfortable and the toilet paper is soft.

Pegg, thanks so much for hosting what turned out to be a fantastic meet and greet. You really went above and beyond, and it has not gone unnoticed. This is most certainly a possibility for an annual event.

Great meeting all you newbies and seeing all my friends again. Hope you had as great a time as we did.

Lots of love to you all. Enjoy breakfast.

Made it home safe and sound. Thank G-d for Immodium. One of the wonder drugs of the 20th century. Still feeling kinda wrung out. Hoping it's just a quick little 24-hour bug.

Pics will be forthcoming. Pat took many and she is planning on posting them. Unfortunately the last Harry Potter book was waiting for her in the mailbox when we got back a few minutes ago, so anybody's guess is as good as mine.

Jim, if you read this, I don't think I'm going to feel like stuffing my face with fried fish today, but I do want to make plans soon to get together with you. Pat said you still have many unanswered questions, and I'd like to help if I can. I'll give you a call soon.

The weather for the Party in the Park couldn't have been better!  It was cool enough for a sweatshirt after the sun went down, there was no humidity, and a good time was had by all (I hope)

Liz's camera has the better photos than mine.  I'll let her do the posting, and Pat's band pics are just wonderful.

As last year, the Suits sounded fantastic. Meeting Jimy, and Dave was great, and their families are lovely.  Seeing Liz again was as fun and enjoyable as ever.  It's always a true pleasure spending time with this cluster family.

Today was spent talking, catching up on things, (and talking about all you guys).  Trips to the store.  Two copies of the last Harry Potter Book were purchased.

Liz just left a bit ago and I wish her a safe trip home, Chris and Kirk are back at their Hotel.  The kids and I will meet them for breakfast before they road trip back home too.

No...this was no Davcon, or Convention, but it was time well spent with a few of the greates and strongest MFers on earth.  Clusterheads.
