This is actually in Illinois, but it's only a short distance to the State line. Best Western's worldwide give discounts: age 55 & over get a 10% discount (rate would be $80.10 per nt). DJ and others who are Military get the rate of $60.10 per nt. They also have corp rates and AAA. Jackie will advise on the Hospitality Suite....and also any info as to whether or not we'll get the rooms cheaper. The existing rate is really pretty reasonable. BTW...I spoke to Stephanie today ;;D. The quoted room rates are $89.99 single, $99.99 double...poolside is probably more so check when you make your reservations if you want poolside. We can have a hospitality room for $95.00 per night if we take it for 2 nights. The going rate on the suite is $159.00 per night....so we got a little deal there. If anyone wants to book the hospitality suite (as their room) they can....there is a Murphy Bed. But....if you do, don't plan on much sleep.... ;;D They are fairly busy on Thurs., Jan. 17th, so if your arriving then you need to make your reservations soon. Also, if you have any kind of discount available (AAA, NRA, AARP) tell them when you book your rooms. Oh....the hospitality room holds approx. 20 people. and can be used as late as we want (the banquet rooms have to be empty by 12:30 am). The atrium has to be empty by 11:00 pm. There is still smoking allowed in the atrium and we can take our own food and beverages in. It would be nice to update the list.... so if your planning to attend let us know, please. Title: Re: 5th Annual DAVCON '08 Meet n Greet Post by catlind on Jan 16th, 2008, 1:27pm Ok, as of 11:30 a.m. central time, first bands of snow have begun in Omaha NE with temps dropping rapidly from 33F - 26F in a 30 min. span causing black ice conditions on main arteries within the area. Interstate 80 went from a few flakes to visibility variance of 2 miles down to as little as 1/4 mile with accumulation beginning. First, the models are not in agreement on this storm any more than they were on any of the others to hit NE/KS/MO/IA over the last 45 days. They don't seem to be able to pinpoint the track or precip until 12 hours out and often not accurately until 6 hours out. That being said, Clark has requested that I use his usual disclaimer: "Don't shoot the messenger, I am in sales, not manufacturing." Deej and Steph, for travelling tomorrow from Wichita to KC you will be following the storm the entire way. Things get interesting from KC on - if you are taking 35 to Des Moines and then I-80 to Davenport expect to drive right into the heart of it tomorrow with expected conditions to be moderate to heavy snowfall with blowing snow. Totals are estimated to be in the 4-7" range. Below is a precip map Clark created for you, and his advice is a night in KC or travel Friday - OR - since the snow would add 2-3 hours onto your travel anyway taking 35/80 (red line) that you may want to swing over to St. Louis and up (blue line) adding another 100 miles to your trip. You can expect road conditions to be snowcovered with reduced visibilities and difficult to dangerous travel conditions. Use the 511 service for IA (or any state) either online or by dialing 511 to get up to the min. road conditions. Iowa has an exceptionally good track record with their 511 service and has been spot on every time I've used them. This is anticipated to be a snow only precip event so there won't be any freezing rain anticipated prior, during or after the storm. We weren't supposed to even start with the snow until after 3:00 pm and we picked up a 1/2" in a 30 min. time frame (just happened to be the 30 damn min. I was on I-80 of course....) I just spent 48 hours in the hospital being poked, prodded and tested. The neuro, who is not my neuro, thinks that I either went into a delirious state due to my sodium and potassium being way low as a side effect of my meds, or I had a seizure due to my meds. This really sucks as I wanted so much to come, but right now, I am just happy to be home. And I'm not allowed to drive or be alone until I have had a follow up with the neuro. So, I am counting of each of you to have an adult beverage for me, and make sure we get pictures!! Bridget |
