It is no secret that pain medication is very addictive.  Before long, a sufferer is treating the headache and the withdrawal from the medicine, but cannot tell which is worse.

Any GOOD doctor will tell you this:  If you are increasing your medication - taking more than the recommended dosage - the meds no longer work for you.  Any GOOD doctor will also tell you not to do this, but to notify them and they will change you to something else.  Increasing the dose only raises your usage to overdose level, and endangers your life.  A change in medication exposes you to something that you have no tolerance to.  You will eventually begin to tolerate the new one and have to change it also.  But this is a lot safer than self medicating.

This affliction is particularly hard on recovering addicts because of their tolerance for chemicals.  Do not, under any circumstances, seek relief "on the streets."  It's the same dead end as at the end of the herion road.  If you have to tell your doctor several times a year that your meds no longer work - TELL THEM!!!!  If they have a problem with it, find another doctor.
