I think this is perhaps the best post from a supporter I've ever read here.  It sounds like you're giving your wife some incredible support.

My hubby and I are the same as you two.  He's the clusterhead, I'm the migrainer (although I don't get hit too much anymore, last time: December).  He's currently in a seemingly endless cycle.

I hear you about your meds frustration, but their beast is different than ours, migraines are pretty black and white:  clusters are technicolour.  Me too, I reach for the meds a.s.a.p. and then quietly go into a dark room and panic for the next 12 hours.  But Mike has to do battle right away, right then and there.  Swift, vicious, horrific battle.  I don't know that I would have the strength he does to fight that pain.  But he keeps doing it.

As you said, we protect them when at home, but when we're apart, it's like sending a baby crawling out into heavy traffic sometimes.   At least that's the feeling we supporters are sometimes left with.

You probably already know this, but there ARE meds out there for clusterheads that do help to abort the attacks.  Imitrex, oxygen, etc.  You sound like you've already looked into that route for your wife.  But tell her that she's welcome here too - it might really help her to find others EXACTLY like her.

Tell me something, are you two REALLY REALLY sensitive to when your spouse smacks their head on a cupboard or something?  Like, do YOU feel that pain too for them?  Do you cringe more than non-headache folks do?  I know Mike and I both do.

Welcome to ch.com, new friend!

:)

I hear ya, but isn't it nice not to have to groan alone?  :)

At least both of you have someone at home who understands and respects your pain(s).  And that's more than HALF the battle!
