Title: Shadows?
Post by ClstrHeadSupport on Nov 1st, 2005, 10:26am
I hear people on here (the sufferers) say they have "shadows".  What is that??

From what I've read, and from what I know my husband goes through, I believe what you guys are describing is when the cluster hasn't actually peaked yet, but you can feel it "sitting there, ready and waiting" as my husband describes it.

Is that right??  I just want to make sure I'm getting the lingo on here right.

Sara,

It's also the pain we get afterwards... the bruised brain feeling.... in another word... it sucks!
02 works great to clear that up!
Cheers,
Rex

Sara,

With a shadow, the pain is usually very low grade for me.  Like the starting up of a CH...but it just can't quite reach the peak it wants.

Another sufferer here told me that he drinks a cup of hot tea when he shadows, and that it works for him.  I tried it...and it seems to work for me also.   Sometimes I can knock out a shadow with an Excedrin Migraine.   Only thing is the EM gives me the shakes.

A shadow is different from a silent attack...a silent attack is the symptoms...without the pain.   A shadow can produce pain...but usually not at a peak to where meds are mandatory.

I'm no doctor....just a sufferer.    Just remember that we're all so different....it's difficult to find something common that works for all.

PF vibes to you hubby,

Jean

my shadows are a low grade "hollow" pain like something was removed from inside my head and left a residual pain. to me this pain is a relief...let's me know the CH is almost over
