Title: What rocks your world?
Post by Jonny on Jun 12th, 2008 at 8:17pm
When it comes to music?

I hate most of the music that is coming out of the radio these days, so I listen to a lot of talk shows (I think im my father now.....LOL) but, that dont mean I have forgot my rock roots!  [smiley=headbanger.gif]

I was just wondering if any of you would like to post a music video of a song that gets your groove on?

Mine?, it goes back a ways, but here it is!

The Cult - Fire Woman

(Nani, you wont like this one  :-* )

Edit to add: Triva question.....The drummer in this video went on to play for the biggest band in the world (at the time).....whats his name?

OK, ok!

All y'all made me dig through You Tube to find some of MY favorites!

I have a fairly eclectic taste in music.  I love opera, Broadway show tunes, OLD country music, pre-Beatles rock and roll, and of course classical music!

As for old country, no one can make me cry, like this one of Red Sovine’s LONG list of great songs:
START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

Then of course there is the unforgettable voice of Mama (she HATED that term) Cass Elliot:
START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

And remember the WONDERFUL songs of Peter, Paul, and Mary?  This is one of my favorites of theirs, but it is SO hard to pick only ONE of their songs:
START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

Another song that brings tears to my eyes, but tears of pride and patriotism, is Lee Greenwood’s classic:
START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

This BoyZone song we had played at my son’s wedding.  The words are AWESOME!   (It also doesn’t hurt that there are some REAL cute singers!)
START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

And then, something different, what musical piece was written with church bells and cannons as instruments?   Does the name Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky ring any bells?   Seiji Ozawa does a marvelous job of conducting this, but nothing beats seeing Arthur Fiedler perform this live on July 4th concert on the Esplanad!

Ok, enough of MY rambling on about my type of music …

Thank goodness for you ladies! I LOVE country, too! :)

I loved classical music as a child, the loved pop, then rock and now I'm into country. I have lots of country records from Brooks & Dunn to Trisha Yearwood. And I just ordered some more... ;D

Timo brought me nicely country records when he was in New York in April. And when I'll travel to America one day, I'll be bringing lots of more country cds as souvenirs... :)

Basically metal, especially Scandinavian bands like Dissection (Godz!), Dark Tranquility, Arch Enemy, old Mayhem, old Satyricon etc etc.
Another fave of mine is the from Israel originating band Melechesh, love the way they bland in those middle eastern rhythms and melody structures into ripping black thrash!

Furthermore I like some down to the bone rock'n roll, such as our Aussie friends from AC/DC and Rose Tattoo.

Classic rock when in the mood.

I like to many types of Music. Which is why my cd collection is so damn big.

This is a song that I adore.  I love the beat to it.  Makes me miss playing bass.

Thier "No Exit" album was my favorite.  I loved their guitar sound.

Do you have all three Badlands albums?  Ray Gillen is my favorite singer of all time, I think if he would have lived longer he would have rivaled Robert Plant for best male singer of all time.

BTW JimLaff, that killswitch version of Holy Diver is pretty awesome!

Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber
Great music for me when I need to focus.  This version was played by the BBC Orchestra under Leonard Slatkin on Dec 15, 2001 in honor of those who lost their lives on Sept 11.  Very moving piece, but not mournful.

Boy, I really hate threads like this.  I have no sound card, so I can't "hear" what any of you are posting.

Be that as it may, I love anything in the late 60/early 70's, and some 80's.

I was never the "flower child", but I was a GO-GO GIRL!  Oh, baby, I was Hot!.  I wore mini skirts/dresses just a few short inches below my unmentionables, with high patent leather boots, or with 3" spikes.  And, I was a married woman at part of that time (maybe this is why my husband hit on me  ::)  I was married September 1969 at the age of 23.  GD, I was a FINE lookin woman! Sigh, those times, they have a-changed.

I also love anything "disco", classical, something labeled as "pop", although that could be just about anything.  I don't like most country when it's really twangy, and I detest rap and this "new wave"crap of today.

I appreciate most all genres' of music. I'm with Jimmers...depends on the mood at the time.

Whether you're listening and enjoying a tune for it's "hook", the skill level of the musician's, fond memories or just as background....music is a pleasure in life that asks damn little of you but has no comparison.

Well this is a marriage in heaven (or hell if you have my dark sense of humour): one of America's dirtiest rock 'n roll bands, Nashville P-ssy from Atlanta Georgia doin' a cover version of Norway's sleaziest:
Turbo Negro.

''But why, Pascal'', some of you will ask, ''I thought Norway was only known for it's grim black metal''?
Well, here's the evidence that the Norsk know how to party, as impersonated by the Georgians:

My song is

The Spirit in the Sky.

I have my will written with what I want to be done when I die.  I will be cremated, my ashes placed in any container of my family's choice (Tupperware works  ;D).

Then, my husband, my two daughters and their husbands are to go out in the Atlantic in my son-in-law's boat, dump my ashes in the ocean while this song plays loudly.

Maybe toss a flower or two, but that's it.

This has always been one that kept me going. Maybe because the radio never got to wear it out, or maybe because I'd been to every concert of theirs that ever came to this area. Truelly something to see on stage when they perform it. If you listen and understand the story it totally goes hand in hand with my attacks. Maybe my picture of the beast should be an albatrosse spiking me through the face.

johnny paycheck is from greenfield ohio which is about 20 miles from where i live and there's a mom and pop radio station that plays allot of  his more obscure recordings and they usually tell you a short story before they play it. alot of them are 45s and they skip sometimes.

Ranges from can to can't.

Sample of artists I listen to
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Poison
Celtic-pretty much any kind
Big And Rich (first album)
Sweet Honey In the Rock
Journey
AC DC
White Mansions
various bluegrass
Zachary Richard (zydeco)

And the list goes on forever.  I listen to World Radio quite a bit and pick up new musicians/new music from there.  Also listen to NPR classical stations.

Great song, great video, and the drummer (Matt, I think) went on to play for Guns & Roses, after Stephen Adler was booted from the band for being too strung out on heroin.

I really dig Motley Crue. Their latest album, "Saints Of Los Angeles," they sound better than ever. Awesome album...

I listen to tons of different things:

Taking Back Sunday
Armor For Sleep
Brand New
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Cure
Tears For Fears
The Cult
L7
Death Cab For Cutie
Stone Temple Pilots
ACDC
The Church
Sisters Of Mercy

Etc. etc....

i spend a good 16 hours a day listening to the radio. kinda like what you said at the beginning of this thread, it's hard to find decant music  let alone getting peppered with all the bullshit commercials.

i remember when i first heard the andrew oldham version. it was about 3 in the morning, drizzling rain, lugging around a heavy load through the traffic lights of a small sleeping town. the slow tempo of the song matched the slow labor of the engine and the tired mood i was in. i guess you had to be there. it was cool. My new mp3 player! ;D

I'm just learning how to use it and have only 89 songs downloaded. And the songs vary from country to soft rock and pop. The last song I listened to was Pink's Dear Mr President, which is great.

Hmmm. Well, for starters - this is what made me trade my drums for a guitar (LITERALLY) once I heard this amazing guitarist who would be gone just two years later - yet continues to influence guitarists decades after his tragic death.

And this song here comes from an album that was a strange comfort to me back when I first went chronic. The end section that repeats with a whisper, then with a scream under the whisper - has become my mantra for CH.

And now for something completely different.
This song really moves something inside my soul. It was originally a Tears For Fears song, but the passion of Gary Jules voice with the piano and strings is far more powerful.

Again, another artist taken way too young, This is Jeff Buckley doing a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."  This one has moved me to tears before. This isn't even the album version, yet a live in-studio clip that with just his voice and guitar.... breath taking.
