Title: The kid is coming home
Post by Callico on Jul 13th, 2008 at 3:49pm
Went to a Marine Corps briefing for family members yesterday concerning the return of 2/24 from Iraq.  They will be coming home a bit early due to the stabilizing situation in Iraq (contrary to what you hear on the news).  Rob will be home the last week in August.

It was an interesting briefing given by a psychologist who works with trauma situations for the NTSB, and the military.  She deals with the adaptation to trauma and trauma situations, teaching those in the situation how do deal with the stresses and with the families of those in the situations to know how to deal with them after they return home.  I found it interesting that she said the Marines coming back from this deployment would probably have a difficult time dealing with it due to the LACK of conflict.  They train so hard to deal with combat type situations that when they have nothing to do it is harder for them to deal with (albeit much easier on US!)  She is an Air Force officer's wife, and made the comment that the Marines have a much harder time with this type of deployment than the other branches of the service because they have much more of a  spearhead mentality, and have a hard time to deal with inactivity.  Not so much that they want to fight as they want to be busy doing something productive all the time.

Below is a pic of Rob (ont he left) with his Major, and his new "toy" that he drives the Major around in.  It is called an MRAP, Mine Resistant Armored Personnel carrier, a new unit used to defeat IEDs.

That is some very sweet news Jerry!  Puts a warm spot in my heart to hear more of our boys are coming home and not by way of Walter Reed.

Please thank him when you see him for me.  We owe our way of life to these brave men.

And as one comes home another of us takes his leave. I dunno if any of you really remember my "brother" Barak, who is a CHer in remission, but he will be leaving for basics August 11th. He's going to be gone for 6 years. Glad your's made it home safe though. But if you could spare a prayer please say one for mine. Thanks.

All good wishes to Rob--I know you'll be glad to see him home, safe and sound, Jerry.  Won't be long now.  Thank him for me, will you?

I don't think it's a hijack at all, Felicia--it's good that you've mentioned him.  And yes, I remember Barak.  He's a fine young fellow, and I know he'll do well.  See if he'll stop by to say hello to his CH family before he leaves for basic training, will you?  I know Helen would be glad to hear from him as well.

Best wishes,

George

Jerry, that's great news! I know you can hardly wait. Please tell him thank you for me.  He may not have seen any action, but what he did was very important! Thank you, Rob!

Great news proud Dad.  Big hug for the kid.  Damn he looks prepared and happy to be a Marine!  Glad the new vehicles are getting to the field for them.
