Title: Smoking or chocolate? (tangent pics pg.2)
Post by Melissa on Jul 14th, 2008 at 3:56pm
Which vice is worse??  Pretty sad when I'm more scared to gain weight than die of some smoking related disease. :(

F'ing hypothalamus + female hormones + 3 kids are giving me a run for my money right now and it seems smokes are on my mind every 10 minutes!!

I need stress relievers badly.

:'(

Have you tried a punch bag?

Very effective for stress relief!!

PS - I'm in diet hell. Feelin' your pain, Melly. Not smokes, but food is on my mind every 5 mins.

Emily,

Would you believe I have a 70lb weight bag hanging in our basement from when I quit smoking 7 years ago??

Though, instead of being angry now, I just want to cry. lol

BTW, it IS hell, isn't it?  Don't know which is harder to do, lose weight or keep quit from smoking.  Done each about a 100 times, I swear!! :-/

I know the very feeling Melly. Just keep your head up. The feeling will pass. It's just a test of your resolve, is all! If you want to cry, then get it out. You'll feel much better. I put a soppy movie on, cry my eyes out and then one that's done, I feel more positive about things.

It's always so much easier to reach for the junk food/smokes than get out and do exercise. My stupid dress fitting is in 3 weeks and I was supposed to have lost 11 lbs for it. I've managed 2.  :-[

Neither Mel!!! You have too much time in to have a smoke. If you must, go for the chocolate then cut the grass or something.

Sorry, just don't want you to start smoking again, as it would only take as little as one cigarette to start again. [smiley=smokin.gif] [smiley=sayno.gif]

Hi Mel,

They do not put messages like this on a box of chocolates......so go ahead and eat the chocolate and if you get mad at yourself take it out on the punching bag!!

Well this is a no brainer for me!! Chocolate has some medical properties, not alot but some antioxidants. Tobacco can't claim any medical properties. Just eat your chocolte slow and in moderation. Buy small bags and enjoy it! If you overindulge, put the baby in the stroller and take a nice hour walk.

Thanks everyone!!

Also want to thank Jeannie for the PM's.  She made me realize the reasons I quit in the first place.

Oh well, even if I gotta eat a pound of chocolate a day, I don't care!! :P

Wise choice, Mel. Have you tried very, very, very dark chocolate? Timo is the chocoholic at our house and he likes that the best. It's the healtiest one apparently, too. :)

Dark chocolate.  Dark chocolate has antioxidants as long as there is no milk in it, the milk proteins spoil the antioxident powers.  Also if you get a craving for something, some people say you will keep eating until that craving is satisfied.  So have a little dark chocolate, the craving will be fulfilled faster than in milk chocolate AND you will get health benefits.
I don't think I need to express what I think about smoking.   :P
But then after you fulfill your chocolate craving, go for a walk and get some endorphines going!

Stick with the chocolate Mel.  You can always loose weight.  COPD or lung cancer are much harder to lose.   [smiley=hug.gif]

You want to be there and have the wind to bounce grandbabies on your knee.

I hate this.  Battling an addiction sucks. :(

My husband is not here emotionally for me.  Hell, he's barely here in body the way it is, and my stupid brain keeps taunting me.  Like it's going to save my sanity or stop all the shit from happening.

I have some absolutely horrible things to say, but I won't do that here.  I only say them to myself. :'(

I know what you mean. When you quit, it is almost like you are schizophrenic...arguing with yourself....

"Have just one....no don't...well, maybe...no way!"

I just kept saying "I don't smoke".

I haven't smoked...for four months.....

Good luck, Melly.....

Mel,
great pictures! I bet you felt much, much better after you went out and took those pics - watching at the wonders of the nature will often do that. And you know, not everyone gets to see a deer - they and other creatures do know who are worth it. :)

Well, I didn't have to get in, one of the advantages of having a small, hand sized camera.  BUT, I did end up getting my jeans soaked in spots, lol. ;)

btw, thanks for all the compliments!  I am currently building a portfolio, even just to keep here at home for guests to peruse.  At least my kids can say what a cool photographer their mom was when I am gone. :)

Oh, and KJ, I like the idea of telling that pimping brain of mine to go shove it and I don't smoke anymore!!

Our brains can be such tricksters!  Why is it when you smoke you want to quit, and when you're quit, you want to smoke?

Bastages!

UPDATE: I know what it is!!  I know why my urges are so strong right now!  It's because with my other 2 children, I smoked.  I smoked when Lily was a baby, I smoked when I went into cycle 2.5 weeks after Eli was born, and quit again 8 months later, and now that I've had Ava, I am getting such huge urges!!  I am so used to dealing with post partum with smoking, that I don't know how to handle it now being smoke free!

Good God I wish I knew what to do! :-/

Mel,

I quit 12 years ago when I got pregnant with my daughter, I stayed quit for 7 years and started a job where I was out on construction job sites and smokes all day and started again.  Smokes for 3 years.  Recently, I quit for 4 months, and started again about 3 weeks ago.  My kids asked me last night if we can sit down and make a promise to do our best  to stop again. (my hubby only quit for about a month) I was able to quit because I kept telling myself that my kids want me here for a long long time.

The issue that I have is that if I'm around them or if I buy them I will smoke them.  So it has to be both of us to quit.

Mel you are a great mom.  And you can get thru this without smoking.  I used toothpicks and kept those in my mouth all the time.  Even 7 years being a non-smoker.  I had them in the car, at work, in my purse and I would grab one and have it no latter what.  That helped with the wanting something to shew on and keeping my hands busy.  I know it sounds silly, but it worked for me.

For a while I would get some cinnamon oil and soak the toothpicks.  Then dry them out. Then when I wanted flavor, I would grab one of those and the craving to eat would not be so bad.

I love the pictures. You have a great eye.
Tia
