My bride could use some positive clusterlove. She went into the ER this morning with a terrible pain in her abdomen. After blood tests and a CT scan, turns out she's got a pretty nasty infection in her descending colon. She'll be on IV antibiotics for a few days and further evaluation for possible surgery after the infection is cleared up.

She could use your support and positive thoughts right now. Thanks.

I certainly hope she has a full and speedy recovery.  She's too nice of a gal for all of this.

She's officially on my list.

I have a great deal of experience with infections in the decending colon.  Diverticulitis led to a bowel resection in 2000.  Lost 18" of it.  

One of the main antibiotics they like to use is Cipro.  The FDA just released a warning on its use and possible damage to tendons leading to rupture.  Keep an eye out for inflamation.

Hope you managed to get her sprung, Bill.  I'm not a big fan of hospitals.

She's doing a little better today. When I went to see her around 8:00 this morning, she said she hadn't hit the demerol button since about 3:00 this morning. Doc says tomorrow will be the earliest she can go home, most likely Friday. Won't know about surgery for awhile - until the infection is completely cleared and things settle down. Then she'll have to do the "colonostopy" thing (I say that because we have both a neighbor and a relative who call it a "colonostopy," and they don't even know each other. It's kind of a joke between us).

I think it's the clear liquid diet that has her the most miffed. Once she agreed yesterday to be admitted, THEN the doc told her "nothing to eat or drink." When he walked into her room, she said to him (in front of the nurse, too), "YOU are on my shitlist. This is a total bait and switch job." That's when he let her have clear liquids. ;D

I hope all is going well, you guys are in my thought.... :-*

Update: Pat's home. Still kind of weak, restricted to the BRAT diet at least until she sees her doc on Friday. The one thing that pushed her doc to agree to release her early was that she had not hit the pain med button since 2:00 this morning.

Glad to be home and ready to get better. She told me to thank every one of you for your kind words and thoughts.

Thanks to all for the vibes and prayers and clusterlove.  It sure made a difference.

I'm no where near 100% but I'm headed in the right direction.  I'm still very weak and out of sorts, but my boys are doing a wonderful job of looking after me.  I'll just lie low for awhile and I'm sure it'll all turn around (but lying low is VERY hard for someone like me, and I have to work at it).

Thanks again for your support of me and my family.  It means a lot.
(When this is over I'm gonna hate jello and applesauce!)

However, Pat, Bill's above post let me know that you would be OK.  Angry - yep, hungry - yep , pissed -yep, equals that you would be OK.

I'm so glad you are back home.  You dear, being the "do it all", get it done" sort of gal, just sit back and let the boys handle everything.  In other words.....STAY IN BED and enjoy!  It's time you get waited on.

Well, all these vibes and prayers and clusterlove worked once again!!

I went back for follow up and my doc gave me a cleaner bill of health than earlier in the week.

I still have to finish a two week course of oral antibiotics and be a bit careful of how much and what I eat, but I'm free to eat anything I want.

My heart says all sorts of Wisconsin delicacies like cheese and brats and chips, but my gut says stick with bland for awhile and see how it goes.  I think I'll listen to my gut awhile longer . . . . ;)

I'll need a colonoscopy in the Fall and am not looking forward to that :(.

That's some welcome new Pat.  The bland diet sucks but it's better than surgery ... trust me on that one.  I left Bill my number.  If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask em.
