I guess some would say that I have no creativity. I did name my son Joe. Not very original, I know. He is such a Joe, though. My daughter is named Morgan. I thought that was pretty original....... It has become a pretty popular name now though. I'm sure Honor will be the only one with that name when she gets to KG!

Creativity isn't one of those things I would consider to be a positive when naming a child. I actually admire people who resurrect names from the past that haven't been used much for awhile (kind of like Lily, Eli, and Ava - I love all of those). I think one of the more important factors in naming a male child is doing what you can to discourage others from beating him up on the playground. |

So "Sue" would not be on your list for boy names, huh?

Then there's the urban legend of the woman who named her twins Lemonjello and Orangello - after the first two things she saw that were "just so beautiful" (Lemon Jello and Orange Jello on the hospital menu).
Or the woman who named her baby Placenta because it was a beautiful name. |

My given name is Madeleine Wanita Ashgrove, after growing up with that name I decided to name my daughter something just a little updated and normal. Its hard growing up with a weird name, I don't understand why some parents are cruel to their kids by naming them off the wall names like that, its not like they are the one who have to live with it their entire lives or anything.

This has nothing to do with celebrity names but back in the 60s, there were people that named kids for space exploration "Orbit" is one I remember and there were a lot others. Poor kids
Condolezza Rice comes to mind too.... Charlie |

Whatever happened to Edith, Enid, Shirley, Arlene, Agnes, Edwin, Irvin, Irving, Augustus, Rudy, Frank, etc.?? I can imagine a grampa Roy or Grandma Ava, but I can't imagine a grandma Tiffany, Brittany or God-forbid, grandma Diva-muffin!
We named Jrbrew (Roy) after two grandfathers (one from each side). When he was about 6 months old I had to get him liquid antibiotics and the pharmacist asked why MR. MITCHELL needed liquid - was he infirm and couldn't swallow pills? (I'm sure he was thinking Mr. M was my dad or grandad). I told him Mr. Mitchell was only 6 months old. Confirmed for me that my son had a nice strong adult name. (And I kid you not, there is a girl in our community who is OLDER than the scandal, but is named . . . . . Monica Lewinski!!!!) |

Honor is actually a rather old-fashioned name, like the ones Pat mentioned. I have several relatives (or rather "had" since they're gone now) named Honor. Had an Aunt Zolla & Uncle Elmer, too.

Personally I like Madaline and Fiona I have two friends by those names. They don't seem to strange to me. I did however always like the one I heard from a young mother on the city bus in California who named her two day old baby girl Thriller.

Nikki Sixx named his oldest son Gunner, just so when his name was on a list it would be listed as Sixx, Gunner.
My dads name is Gray J My moms is Sheila Rae So when my sister was born her name became Tamara Grae My folks where sure that I was gonna be a boy. My first name was supposed to be Shane Wayne (I know that would have been cruel) , but when I came out missing certain parts :-/ they called me Traci Waine. Shane was from the damn movie that my mom liked. She said that she wanted to put me on a horse and yell "Shane, Shane, Come back, Shane!!!" My middle name came from my Grandfather. In the 70's Traci (and all of the different ways to spell it) was a boys name. Now you dont hear of many boys named Tracy. So every year that I started school and the teacher called out Traci Wayne Gordon I got teased up the ying-yang. "Dick Tracy" "Flash Gordon" it was so much fun. And then of course once I hit Jr High and High School... you have the bad porn of "Flesh Gordon" Yeah I LOVED my name. ::) My daughter is named Krishara Renea... Krishara is Celtic for "Winter Star." She goes by Shara. But she loves her name. I did not want to give her a long middle name, and Renea sounded right. My son is named Cameron William, after his Dad and Grandfather. Cameron is my husbands middle name and I love it. Butyou can t get more traditional. ;D |

One of my fave Sunday morning parts is to read the names people have given to their babies. And yes, ordinary Finns do give some weird names for their kids - that has been going on for a while now.
Naturally, back in here, people have named their kids after TV-shows as well. When I was born, my mom was asked if she was considering Pamela or Sue Ellen - popular names after Dallas... ::) And these days there are plenty of kids whose names are Brooke, Ridge etc - inspired by The Bold and the Beautiful. My neice is called Honor (don't worry, you can't think it more awful than I do!) She is now 16 and jokes about honor and offer abound.
I have another friend who named her daughter Tamsin - innoffensive you may think but the child is only ever called Tampax. I have another friend who called her daughter Holly (surname berry) I know a girl in East Sussex called Annette Kurtin (say it out loud) but the worst one I have ever heard was a girl who lived in Tunbridge Wells who refused to use her married name at work. I saw it on a credit card once and was sworn to secrecy and I can quite understand why. She was called Ophelia by evil parents but if that wasn't bad enough she married a man called Ball... she must've REALLY loved him is all I can say!!! I had great fun winding David up when I was expecting Jasper. His surname was Kemp so I was joking about calling the baby Clark (he really believed me for a while too!) It nearly backfired onn me though as he thought I genuinely had my heart set on Sylvester so when I had to have an emergency caesarean under general anaesthetic and the nurse asked him what we were calling the baby it's a good job he said he didn't know! |

All through my pregnancy with my first child, my husband said he wanted to name our baby Otis if it was a boy! Talk about playground fights!
Okay, this is terrible. He also found all these names in the baby book. He wanted to string them together for the lovely name....Ready ...These are all real names.. Ima Gunner Buster Hyman ...... I can't believe I'm telling you that! |

LMAO Jean - good grief - if you have anymore kids, or before you have grandkids... glue all those pages together and just write John and Susan on the cover of the book and then hopefully he'll resign himself to just buying toys!!!
