Title: Obama in Afghanistan Post by Callico on Jul 26th, 2008 at 11:11pm
Passing along an email I just received from a close friend in the Marine Corps. I am redacting out the officer's names to protect them from retaliation as they are not supposed to make political comments outside the service. This is not one of those that circulates around the internet without any way of verification, but was sent to me personally.
Take it for what it is worth. If you are an Obama supporter, and believe as he does, then you should vote for him, but if you are a supporter of our military this is something you should keep in mind. Marines: The following was forwarded by my college roommate, , an Army Artillery Officer RVN. It's visual confirmation of what most of us sensed. Good to know we are not paranoid. Bad for those of us who believe in America first (1.5 million in uniform right now, their families, and 90 percent of the those who served in RVN-still not enough to cause "Sophisticated Europe-o-philes" to worry about losing our vote). ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Date: Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 11:32 PM Subject: An Army Captain's view of Hussein Obama's Visit Subject: Obama's Visit Hello everyone, As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to 'The War Zone'. I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram. As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service. So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you. I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country. If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake. In service, Battle Captain TF Wasatch American Soldier |

vig, one could produce an equally long and reprehensible list of Democrats. I think it is clear that the allure of power and privilege is too much for humans to resist for long, regardless of party affiliation. It's time to clean house (and senate LOL). There are a lot of "Mr Smith's" out there who want to go to Washington. I think it's time to get rid of the career politicians and vote in a new crop of people who will represent the people and not their own interests and ambitions.
...and then I woke up. *sigh* |

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.
Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President. The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'post turtle'.' Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was. The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle.' The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain. 'You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there to begin with.' |

Ex-Senator Ernest "Fritz" Hollings has a new book out about his tiresome years in the Senate where all he saw was endless fundraisers and the like that had nothing to do legislation, the protection of the Constitution or work for the electorate. It's all he was asked to do from day one. Anybody that didn't play the game took a beating from their respective party. It's been on for 40 or 50 years.
As an aside, the last time two Senators ran against each other for President was 1960 when Nixon and Kennedy ran. Things are similar in that one is obviously experienced, while the other is a relative newcomer.....allbeit with a longer history. Nixon had the experience and JFK had the youngsters. There is a similar situation today. Normally Senators don't do well in these elections. I'm pretty tired of the whole thing but no matter who wins, it will be nice to have a smidgeon of competence back in the White House and no more Darth Vador as Veep. Charlie |

Well, sometimes NO experience can be a GOOD thing... at least you can make DIFFERENT mistakes - not the same old ones...
I still think we need to UNELECT Congress and start over with ALL new faces.... Maybe get some MR. SMITH's in DC with some COMMON SENSE.... But we can all keep calling names and DOING NOTHING - whereas if we want to do something constructive we'd start on the local level and clean house and it'd work it's way up to DC, but it would take a little while and we just don't have the patience to see it thru, so we'll just keep bitching and griping and things will just keep on keeping on and we'll just keep complaining and doing nothing. But until the time comes when we hold our ELECTED politicians RESPONSIBLE to US, they have no reason to change. Hugs BD |

I keep reminding myself of this: Hillary! has not terminated her campaign - she has merely suspended it (her words, not mine). And the way the democrats have written the rules for their nomination process, it is the superdelegates that have the ultimate say.
Things could get UG-LY in Denver. |

Title: Re: Obama in Afghanistan Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Aug 1st, 2008 at 3:03pm
I thought all that shit was cleared up last month with that big rules committee meeting and now Obama has the majority of delegates? Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see about 4 'suicides' by the end of the month and Hillary wins the nomination.
She suspended it rather than terminated it so she could beg for money to pay back her personal loans. If she terminates the campaign, she can't pay herself back. |

Barb, He's done in just over 5 months. Let it go. Ya know, people on both sides of the aisle have been extremely disappointed with the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Blvd. Some think he's too extreme, too much of a war monger, and others, like myself, think he panders to the middle, that he's not a true conservative. I hope that someday I can afford broadband. I probably haven't downloaded more than 3 YouTubes or the like. It takes hours to do it. Damn. I can only guess at the polemics you people have found that have little to do with reality....a case in point is that there is no evidence whatsoever that Obama didn't visit hospitalized soldiers because he was told no cameras were allowed. None at all.

Actually, it nothing to do with that. My link showed Obama stuttering and stammering his way through some warped explanation of how much it costs to take a kid to the emergency room for an asthma attack. In the end, he said absolutely nothing. Sorry, Charlie, but this guy is completely and utterly lost without a teleprompter. No wonder he said no to a series of weekly town hall meetings with McCain. Hillary must be totally flummoxed. "I can't believe I lost to this guy." |
Title: Re: Obama in Afghanistan Post by Kirk on Aug 2nd, 2008 at 7:53pm
OK Charlie, I agree with you on this one. It is all just a coincidence that once the right honorable Senator Obama was informed that no cameras were allowed in the military hospital. That an hour later he read a statement to the press that the military had denied him access to the wounded soldiers. And he was canceling his visit there. Its all a Liberal Facist conspiracy to smear the man.
All this time all the military has said, is that the Senator is perfectly welcome. So long as he doesn't bring a bunch of photographers along. So it can't be the Neo-Cons and Georgy pulling this off. They're too stupid by your book. It can't be the Socialists. They are even less believable as Progressives, than they were as Liberals. And twice as funny. No one believes them anymore. Oh wait according to his writings, and voting record. Obama is a Liberal Facist. He can't be doing this to himself. So who do you think is trying to frame the guy Charlie? [smiley=smokin.gif] |
Title: Re: Obama in Afghanistan Post by Charlie on Aug 4th, 2008 at 1:28am
Schadendfreude, Kirk.
The only "evidence" that it was because that no cameras were allowed comes from the right wing fantasty blogosphere. Even with the love affair with Obama, the NYT and other papers would report it if there was a real story. You have to give the lunatic right wing bloggers credit. They get attention because their tabloid entertainment is now and then picked up as filler new stories by real media. It's not journalism and has nothing to do with it. It's a town square full of the brightest lights and the dimmest creatures who delight supplying fodder for prople that revel in other peoples misery based soley on gossip. Charlie |
Title: Re: Obama in Afghanistan Post by Kirk on Aug 4th, 2008 at 8:10pm
Sorry Charlie, the only blogs that I read are over on the Linux forums. I have no idea what is being written on the political blogs. I just read the military statements from the AP wire, And Obama's statements from the same source. Neither side has denied their accuracy.
If you're getting your info from the people writing blogs you'll end up as crazy as they are. Or like Jonny. :D A Vidiot. [smiley=smokin.gif] |
