Title: Im so scared and frustrated!! Post by tessistired on Jul 30th, 2008 at 7:07pm
And I know you all relate all too well.
You all know I just started my new job this past Monday and I really really like it and am doing well so far....BUT....the damn beast is trying to mess things up I believe. My patterns with ch dont change that often, I generally get hit at night with a few here and there during the day hours. But ironically and almost too coincidentally, since Sunday night I have been hit free during the night hours. But starting Monday I have been hit during work and after. Today was bad! I got hit 3 times during my 8 hr shift and the middle one was the worst. I had to stop my work and sit with a washcloth on my face and wait it out as I sobbed. How embarrasing as my new manager sat with me to make sure I was ok. At least with the last one I was able to cry a little to myself with no one seeing me as I hid it from one of my residents during care. I am so paranoid that this will ruin my job performance and attendance and my overall job!! Its just so funny in a way that my first day of work is when my pattern changes. In the past when it changed it didnt last long and I am praying now that it still doesnt last long. I cant win either way. I just dont know what to do about it and if there even is anything I can do about it. PLEASE HELP!! Any suggestions, prayers vibes anything will be very helpful and much appreciated! Thanks for letting me vent! Tess |

So sorry Tess. My little technique has worked for me many times when working or in a tough spot. You need some quiet though. Give it a shot.
Dr. Wright’s Circulatory Technique: I am not sure what mechanism is triggered by this but whatever it is, at least indirectly helps kill the pain. I do know that this technique has nothing to do with meditation, relaxation, or psychic ability. It is entirely physical and takes some work. It involves concentrating on trying to redirect a little circulation to the arms, hands, or legs. Think of feeling your pulse in your hand. Increased circulation will result in a reddening and warming of the hands. The important and difficult part is that it has to be done without interruption through the pain. Do not give up in frustration. It may not work on the first try. Try experimenting between attacks. You will find that it gets easier with practice. Every now and then it will work almost immediately. I lived for those moments. I was given less than five minutes instruction in the use of method. The doctor, while placing his arm on his desk, showed me that he could slightly increase his arm and hand circulation. After several attempts, I was able to repeat this procedure and use it successfully. I have had about a 75% success rate shortening these attacks. My 20 minute attacks were often reduced to 10 minutes or less. Once proven that I had a chance to effectively deal with this horror, I always gave it a try as I had nothing to lose but pain. I used to try to imagine I was pushing blood away from my neck into my arm. Use your imagination. There is one man who wrote that his standing barefoot on a concrete floor shortened his attacks. This may be similar as it draws some circulation away from the head. Cold water, exercise, or anything affecting circulation, seems to be worth a try. My suggestion is to not let up immediately when the pain goes. Waiting a minute is probably a good idea. So long as you do not slack off, this has a chance of working. This technique is very useful while waiting for medication to take effect or when none is available. It costs nothing, is non-invasive, and can be used just about anywhere. It is not a miracle but it helped me deal with this horror. It can be a bit exhausting but the success rate was good enough for me and a cluster headache sufferer will do just about anything to end the pain. It gives us a fighting chance. Charlie |

They have plenty of 02 where you work, so bringing your own to work should be no problem (Thats if 02 works for you, I dont know that).
Megatronic vibes on the way! |

Tess,
Jonny is right! I don’t mean to be blunt, but don't be "Reeeeally stuuuupid" as Svenn would say. Take your oxygen, regulator, and NRB mask to work, or get some oxygen at work if it’s available there... and when the beast jumps ugly on you, stroll into the ladies can and start huffing and puffing. People wouldn't think twice if you were diabetic and needed to take a shot of insulin... Cluster headaches are no different when it comes to intervention. If you don't have a prescription for oxygen therapy, see your doc and GET ONE ASAP! Then I can help you. Until then, hang in there. You’ve got a good job. Let’s see if we can help you keep it. Take care, V/R, Batch |

Are you on an abortive such as Amerge or Imitrex pills?
Since the beast seems to amke a mess of your new job if I were you (besides what the others already told you) I would take an Imitrex or Amerge with my morning coffee before leaving the house. They do no good for an abort but they CAN and DO give you some PF time for several hours. Please PM me if you need anything. ;) please. Linda |

Vibes on the way, it is so difficult to deal with the stress of a new job and then the beast deciding to change things up just because.
Remember though, fear cuts deeper than a sword. Listen to the O2 boys above, they know what they are talking about :) Cat |

You'll make it kid, and please take seriously all of those people insisting you call them for help. They really mean it. Like Batch said, if you were diabetic and had to whoop out a needle they wouldn't think twice. Once everyone gets used to your cute little E-tank they won't even give it a second look.
Oh, and all the warmth and good PF vibes I have coming your way! [smiley=hug.gif] Guiseppi |
