Title: New PCP - Thinks he knows more then he does.
Post by Tiannia on Aug 1st, 2008 at 5:43pm
Well, I saw my new PCP today.

He refilled my preventative, have me 6 months of refills on it.

My Trex NS...  He filled it with 3 months of refills. But only gave me 1 a month.  Said if I need it more then that to give him a call.

Then he hands me a Migraine Diet.  Told me to follow the diet and then I should not need medication to control my HA. :-?

So here is the list of things that I am supposed to stay away form for 2 months before I see him again...

Remember food NOT TO EAT

Chocolate or anything that contains Chocolate
Alcoholic beverages

Aged, Canned, Cured Meat.
Ham
Hot dogs
Sausage (eg. salami, pepperoni, summer sausage, bratwurst, etc)
Cheese (eg. Bleu, brick, all Brie Types, all Camembert types, Cheddar, Swiss, Gouda, Roquefort, Stilton, Mozzarella, Parmesan, Provolone, Romano, etc)

Hot Fresh Homemade Bread (But I can eat commercial store brands):-?
Sourdough Bread
Any produce with Chocolate or nuts
Beans - avoid all pole or broad beans (lima, lentils, navy, pinto etc.)
Snow Peas
Sauerkraut
Onions
Olives
Pickles

Avocados
Raisins
Papaya
Figs
Passions Fruit
Red Plums

Canned Soup
Soup or Bouillon Cubes
Anything that contains Yeast

Ice Cream
Pudding
Cookies
Cake
Any Dessert that contains Chocolate
Mincemeat Pie (No worries with this one :P)
Snack foods that contain anything form the list.

Pizza, Cheese Sauce
Soy Sauce
Meat Tenderizer
Accent
Season Salt
Mixed Dishes (eg mac and cheese, beef stroganoff, lasagna, etc)

Nuts and seeds
Peanut Butter
Oils from Seeds or Olives
Any Pickled, Preserved or Marinated Food.

OK so after I starve foe 2 months I'm supposed to go back and tell him if this diet helps my head. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm German, Shaun is Italian. Everything I cook I use Olive Oil and typically has cheese, usually 2+ kinds.

I think I'll call him Tuesday and tell him that I He needs to give me the 6 MS a month and that if I dont use them, great.  But he can suck my big toe if he thinks that I'm going to follow this diet.

Also do you think they could have listed Chocolate a few more times?  ::)

What the fuck did they do. Follow people around who got HA's and list every damn thing they ate for a month? :o

Actually reading over the list, I think a researcher's wife kept telling him "Not tonight, I have a Headache" and so he kept track of everything she ate.   He got laid when she ate seafood, everything else is foods to avoid.   ;)

You'll be living on radishes and spinach. I have a rabbit that follows a similar diet!!!  ;D

On a serious note, sorry you're having to go through this. Handouts at the ready Tia!!

I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
I'm gonna see what he says when I call for more NS.  If he does anything other then fill them, then yes it is time to find a new doc, but at least my preventative is filled and I'm not in such a urgent state.

When you ask him for more NS and he says "No"......you are back in the "Urgent state"

Fire his ass! ;)

But before you fire him, see if you can suck some freebie samples first!

He's treating you for migraines -- he doesn't have a clue what CH is -- FIRE HIM!!!  Get a doc who at least knows what a CH is.... I went thru a "world reknown" idiot like this one.... trust me - it don't get better...

Nah, Jonny. I got my preventative.

But I will work this and get some more stuff.  Part of it was my own fault because I did not have copies from my old doc with the Neuros records, He is supposed to have them Tues.

I will work on the samples though

You should ask him for more NS before you actually need it.  See what he does...

Sorry Tia...I'm with the rest...fire him.

ANY Dr. who gives a cluster headache patient a migraine diet to follow shows himself to be a fool.

Okay I don't care who you are that there is funny! Another vote for the firing squad, he clearly means well, but it's like asking a hooker to build you a nuclear reactor. I'm not saying the hooker aint necessarily talented, I'm just concerned about how your reactor will turn out!!

Love and best wishes!

I did that diet for a month, on a docs advice. Lost a few pounds, didn't do a damn thing for my CH though. YMMV

Ok, what CAN you eat...???
I would have demanded a "Things allowed to eat" list as well... Oh I wish it would be so easy!

Like a fool, I did the diet for 5 years, believe me when I say, listen to every one that says "Fire Him!"  My clusters never slowed down at all and I kept a daily log to prove it!   John

I followed that diet for a month and it did nothing for my migraines or ch.  That was in the beginning before I was diagnosed and was willing to do anything to find out what was causing these.  I would however, wait until he gets your records, reads them, and then has a chance to change his tune.  If not fire him.

Praise be to my Pharmacist!!!!!!!!

She called my doc Friday afternoon. And explained that my standard refill for the NS was 6 a month and that she wanted to confirm that he only meant to give me 1 NS and no0t 1 box.  He told her to go ahead and fill 1 box, if that is what I typically got. Plus 6 months of refills.  ;D  I really do love this lady.  Not that I'll leave Shaun for her, but you get the idea.  8-)

Anyway I called my old doc to make sure that he was getting my records over to the new doc.  The new doc's office has a neuro on staff, so I have asked him to refer my HA care to the neuro, as he has more specialized care.

I am waiting 6 weeks to get into the neuro, but in the mean time I have my preventative and abortive.  So I wont fire him for regular care.  He will work for colds and normal stuff.

But I am not going to let him treat my HA, because he is rather clueless.

Sandie - The Things you are allowed to eat was on there too.  One line only. "Any except those to AVOID" :-?  I'm not joking, it really said that.  :D

Guiseppi I am glad you like my interpretation.  I think it makes total logical sense.  Which is a frightening thing when it comes to a CH'er having that.

I love you all
Tia
