HOUSE FROM HELL!!
Aside of it being very unattractive, can you imagine the infestation in that building of all kinds of creepy crawlers migrating from them shrubs!! I couldnt handle that! Is that a vacant building? Tess |

Not only does it harbor plenty of bugs and insects, the "roots" that hold the plant to the building, cause havoc to the structure, and promotes rot, when it is on wood.
Some of those windows and balconies are virtually blocked off! NOT a place I would want to live in! Chuck |

The heck is that stuff? Looks like Virginia Creeper. Doesn't look like English Ivy.
Not only insects, but the lattice-work vines provide a highway for rodents, as anyone with vine-covered buildings can tell you. I'm guessing the residents have a gazillion mice running around, unless they've been supplanted by rats. (Rattus rattus, the "black rat", not Rattus norvegicus, the Norway rat. Black rats like to climb.) I vote for the "house from hell". :P Best, George |

Maybe it's Kudzu. Isn't that supposed to help with CH?

Looks like the house from hell to me!! Those vines will eventually take the house down.

Bleuagh. It looks like something Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would have written about.....a local village near the Baskerville Estate on Grimpen Mire....perhaps.

Tess, it's not a vacant building but a home to lots of normal Finns and even few businesses have their offices at the ground floor.
The building itself is pretty normal one back in here; lots of similar ones are located at Finnish cities. But, usually, they're NOT covered by any plant... I'm not quite sure what you guys call it; to us it's villiviini, the direct transtlation being wildwine. Having that much of this particular plant covering your house can be damaging - I know because my mother has the same kind at her garden and she spends hours making sure the plant doesn't do exactly that - but what comes to rats and insects; we haven't had problems with those. But would I like to live in that particular building? I'm not sure. I have seen that some people cannot see anything from their windows, because the plant blocked the view! And I'd like to know if the residents are forced to take care of the plant and make sure that it stays the way it is currently. But, because I don't live in that building, I can freely admire the plant which covers it. It's quite a view now and it's actually quite pretty when the temperatures drop, because the leaves of the plant turn red - and a beautiful shade of red at that. Sanna |
