Title: A Benefit For One Of The Family - VERY SAD UPDATE Post by Brew on Aug 6th, 2008 at 8:04am
Blue Meanie's sister, Raye, has asked me to post the following:
As many of you know, Blue Meanie's son, David, has been a victim of a very rare form of cancer since May 14th and has been hospitalized and breathing on a respirator through a trachiotomy tube. He has a 6-year-old daughter, Cassandra, that he supports. David's mom was forced to take a leave of absence from work as he requires constant care. It has been a financial hardship for the family paying for medicines and daily drives from Gurnee Illinois to Bernard Mitchell Univeristy of Chicago Medical center and from Hobart Indiana to Chicago Hospital for daily radiation treatments which could continue for months until the cancer is removed. David's "Rock For Cancer" Benefit will be held on Saturday October 4, 2008, featuring The Empty Suits classic rock band from 2-9 p.m. at "The Cottage" bar, Old Gages Lake Road, Gages Lake, Illinois. 10 minutes from Great America amusement park and Gurnee Mills shopping mall. There are plenty of hotels in the area if anyone was wishing to come and stay overnight. We can reserve a block of rooms with enough interest, as there are people driving from Indiana and Wisconsin and staying overnight. Food will be provided along with entertainment, auctions, raffles, 50/50 and tip boards. Raye Jackson (benefit coordinator) is asking for donations for the auctions and tip boards. If there is anyone who would be willing to help out, items can be sent to: Raye Jackson 1116 Lillian Street Hobart, IN 46342 Any monetary contributions can be sent through paypal to: ROBL3000@comcast.net. Please include your CH.com screen name. Or, checks and money orders can be sent directly to Bob: Robert Loeffler 36320 Douglas Terrace Gurnee, IL 60031 Thank You and God Bless, Raye Jackson (benefit coordinator) |

I think you can use Raye's address above. Maybe Bob can let us know on this thread how checks should be made out.

The deepness of you hearts, Bill and the Suits, will be thricefold rewarded.
Linda, you might make the check directly to Raye with the benefit donation noted on the note line???? |

Duh.......don't mind me. I'm having an extraordinarily blonde day. [smiley=embarassed.gif] I'll be sending 50.00....who wants to see my 50 and raise it a bit? We take care of our own here. Right? Several checks for 15 or 20 dollars each, add up folks. $15 or $20 dollars is small change in the scheme of things. Knowing you did something wonderful...priceless.!!!!!! |
Title: Re: A Benefit For One Of The Family Post by Brew on Aug 6th, 2008 at 8:01pm
Linda and all,
Checks and money orders can be sent directly to Bob: Robert Loeffler 36320 Douglas Terrace Gurnee, IL. 60031 I've updated the original post to include this. |
Title: Re: A Benefit For One Of The Family Post by Linda_Howell on Aug 6th, 2008 at 8:10pm Thank you Bill. My check will be in the mail tomorrow. There is nothing so disasterous as seeing your child deal with this kind of stuff. I send it with all of my good wishes and prayers Bob. |

Linda is right. Dont think that 10 or 20 wont matter, I took up a drive one year to get a cluster head to a convention and with the 10's and 20's we got him there and back. It adds up! No one expects anyone to send the kind of cash I do, but I do because I can. If I couldnt I wouldnt. Bob needs our help and this is much more important than a convention! Linda, I will match that $50! |

Title: Re: A Benefit For One Of The Family Post by Linda_Howell on Aug 6th, 2008 at 8:44pm THAT'S WHAT i'M TALKING ABOUT!!!! TY Jonny. Thank you in advance for any and all of you who can send any donation you can to Bob's son. When my own son was in a horrific head-on collision due to a drunk driver and almost died...I didn't need any donations. But the support I recieved here was enormous and so appreciated. Sometimes a check for 15.00 dollars says more in the way of support than we would ever ever imagine. Dig deep folks....you know you don't need that Machio carmel latte tomorrow at Starbucks. ;) Linda |

The support we have received is totally overwhelming. THANK YOU to the entire BREWCREW & the "Empty Suits" for offering your time, talent and effort. My sister Raye has taken on this benefit head on and is doing a superb job. Words can't express my gratitude to you all. Clusterheads are are truly amazing.
David got his temporary trach tube in today and is resting now and looking alot better. He will get the permanent one installed on Monday. Docs say he should be able to talk in around 10 days or so. He may leave this hospital here in Chicago soon and go to a long term care facility until he can get better and breath on his own. There are a few facilities in the area that we will be checking out. Anyone thinking about the possiblity of coming to the benefit you can message me for any questions or info. If you have not heard "The Empty Suits", I can testify that they ROCK and all Clusterheads are invited and welcomed with open arms. With Love, Bob, Cindy & David |

Hopefully at a rehab/LTC facility he will become comfortable with the care of the trach. I'm praying for you all constantly that this thing gets cured.
Much love, Carrie/Lizzie2 |

An update on David: He was transfered to Holy Family medical center close to O'Hare airport. After arrival he had to go back to ICU as he just cannot get off the respirator yet. They plan to slowly wean him off and figure it will take at least another 3 weeks before he starts back up on chemo.
Keep the vibes coming folks! |

Thanks for the concerns and contributions. You guys and gals are awsome.
David has finished his 3 week recovery at the Holy Family Medical Center after receiving 11 weeks of radiation. He will be moving in the next couple of days back to the University of Chicago Medical Center. Next week will commence his cemotharapy treatments for the next 12 weeks or so. The radiation did a pretty good job and reduced its' size by 1/3, but we need the chemo to do more. The last 14 weeks has given us lots of scary moments, but David fought it out and did very well. Still a long uphill battle, but he has a strong will and desire to keep fighting and that's all we can ask. This is the final process so we can use vibes and prayers that the chemo works so he can improve his breathing and get off the ventilator. Thanks Clusterville.... Love ya, BlueMeanie&Family |

Hi, you guys!!! Its Raye again, a couple of people wanted to know if kids are allowed at the benefit, the bar owners said it's fine until 9 O'clock so, no problem! I sure hope no one does a rain dance, because the bar only holds about 75 people. the fundraiser is outside. We do have a party tent that accommodates 2-300, so just dress for the weather. When we started planning the event it was gonna be an October fest type event. With all of your help along with Bobs community it has turned into a big ass party and the band rocks!! We have quite a committee up there getting everything done.
David has finished his first round of chemo in Chicago and has been moved back to DesPlaines until the next round. So far so good, the tumor has shrunk a little! Thanks for everything, especially your prayers. Raye |

Thank you all for your prayers and vibes for David. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse. David passed on Friday and is now in heaven with my father and mother. It was the most emotional day of my life.
I called his friends and they all came to Chicago to see him one last time before he passed on. There were lots and lots of people all day that had their chance to say goodbye to him. Me and Cindy are hanging in there with lots of support here in Indiana at my sister Raye's house. We will return home Sunday which is going to really be hard, but we have to deal with it the best we can. There will be a visitation on Thursday evening and the burial will be on Friday morning. We are definitely still having the benefit on Saturday from 2-9 PM in his honor. We plan to not grieve, but to celebrate his friendship and the joy & happiness that he has shown us all in his life. He was well loved and this benefit will be huge with many many people attending. I hope that anyone who was planning on coming will still be there to celebrate in his honor. Clusterheads are a very important part of my life and I love you. Thank you all for all the support you have given us with your vibes and prayers along with your generous contributions. I am so terribly sorry to hear of David's passing. I have been saying for all this time I was going to take the time to go visit him, but with the excuse of being busy I put it off. I am terribly sorry that I didn't take the time and get to meet him. You have meant a lot to me here on the board and at Davcon, and I'm ashamed that I was not there in person to support you during his illness. We have been praying for him, and will continue to remember you. Jerry for the Callison Family |

Bob,
May you all be surrounded by the love and light that you have given your son throughout his life. He will always be with you and be able to take care of you now as well. Blessed Be, my friend. Tia |

Bob, Cindy, Raye, and the rest of the family,
I'm terribly sorry not to have made the benefit tonight. I wanted so badly to be there for you, but have been in with Pneurmonia for the last four days. You are still in our prayers. Jerry |

It was an honor and a privilege to play and help raise money for Gizmo's family last night. Truly inspiring - the most awesome benefit with which I've ever been associated.
Bob, Cindy, Raye, and all of David's family and friends - from the entire band, we love you guys. |
