Title: My whole family is learning Spanish !
Post by HappyElaine on Aug 13th, 2008 at 2:23pm
Patty helped me find the right program for us. The Rosetta  Stone Spanish Latin America. We each have a lesson to do each day. I do mine after we are done homeschooling every day. Well I was sitting at my desk and doing my lesson. You have to repeat the word into the mic after they say a word. If you say it right you get to go on, I was stuck on a word and just kept trying to get it right. JD I guess was tired of hearing me trying to get the word right, so walks up to me pulls the mic over and says the word perfect, then smiles and walked away. LOL I love it !

Deveny and JD are just catching on fast, Buddy and I are catching on but a little slower then them  ::)

Lat night we were sitting on the porch, Buddy was reading the paper, and I was reading a book. We could hear Deveny and JD talking to each other in Spanish. Buddy looked up and so did I. Buddy said he hated them talking and not knowing what they were saying. I just laughed and told him he was just going to have to do like me and double up on our lessons. Then I winked and told him they were talking about what snack they were going to eat. I surprised myself. I understood what they were saying, I couldn't say the words but I understood it. That was cool!  8-) We are having a ball with this. We only been working on it a few days. We are finding its more fun than watching TV.Their program is so easy. If your children or you want to learn a second language I recommend this program.   I think I should really learn English a little better LOL.

I just had to share what we are doing with you guys.

Thanks patty for all your help.

LOL Elaine!! You're welcome, anything for you guys.  :)

It's really great that the program seems to work so well - I told you the kids would pick it up fast.. JD is going to be El Maestro of the house  8-)

Sounds like a lot of fun.. I think I want to learn some German or Chinese, they are teaching Chinese (Mandarin) at my daughter's school for the younger kids (she's learning Latin & French).  My family is also part German, and live there part of the year for work too (my cousin designs VW models) while my nephew's wife is German.. would be cool to surprise them all and be able to speak with them in their own language!

Well.. have fun, you'll be speaking it before you know it!
Some fun messages for your family:
Buddy "tienes que estudiar mucho"  [smiley=bash.gif]
Deveny "tus padres necesitan tu ayuda"[smiley=crash.gif]
JD "muy bien hecho - aprendes rapido" [smiley=sayyes.gif]
Elaine "cuando estudies, deje que Buddy cocine"  [smiley=grin2.gif]

I hope you guys can figure this out... ya might want to ask JD. LOL!

Love,
Patty

E, you sure made my day  [smiley=hug.gif]

Elaine, WE'RE the normal ones, everyone else is NOT!  Keep repeating this to yourself outloud every time you're in Walmart.

I think it's fantastic you're all learning Spanish!  I will remember about the Rosetta Stone when we're ready to try it ourselves. :)

Bro, on this one I have to say that being multi lingual is a BIG plus.  When I just started out in school, it was a requirment to learn a second language. This was back in the early 60's.  I learned grammer from books that were from the 40's.  We didn't have puters, we didn't have feel good courses about sensitivity and all that crap.  If you were disruptive you got punished.  The school system has really changed.  Guess who controls the entire school system in the USA today?  (hint: they want YOUR money)

My cousin told me that Spanish is very easy, even easier than English (for non-native speakers), but it depends a lot on your preferences.

I got both English and German at school, English is obligatory for everyone. Well, third is obligatory as well, but it's between German/Russian(not sure)/Italian/French/Spanish. I would prefer Spanish but it's German in my class... To be honest (I don't want to be harsh", it's a total crap *cough*. I am not even going to continue it when my school finishes.

Some time ago I wanted to learn Japanese but I think it's too hard and would take like a half of my life to get on a decent level.

Anyway I am going to start learning Swedish in 1-2 years ;-) At least I hope so... Though it's quite hard to learn it as it's not a one of those popular languages.

LOL Jonny my friend, I could care less what that jerk thinks. I know I am proud. Our family has friends that are Spanish good friends, it would be fun and nice to talk to them in their language. I hope by the time JD is 18 he knows two or three different languages. You can get some damn good jobs if you speak more than one language. I also hope in his future that it helps him get far in life. My goal with JD has nothing to do with Obama, but everything to do with God and getting along in life, and to be well educated. This is about education and something fun my family is doing and that is all its about nothing more.

Learning Swedish? Yikes. Actually it used to be taught in my high school here in Jamestown, NY.

Way back in the 50s they experimented teaching a little Spanish twice a week to 11-year olds. Too bad most of us didn't pursue it. I guess I've mentioned it before but when I was in high school, boys took German and girls took French. There was one Spanish class. I cleverly took Latin, of course and fogot it all.

Sounds like fun Elaine.
